Question about combat bond vouchers

Hi guys, re combat bond vouchers, the wiki fandom site says the following (although there's a note at the top saying it might be out of date.) :

"Upon dropping from Supercruise into a Conflict Zone, the player can select their preferred minor faction in a special tab that appears in the Comms panel. Ships belonging to the selected faction become allied, while ships belonging to the other faction become hostile and begin targeting the player."

I'd like to upgrade the jump range on my Asp Explorer to the 65 something LY range which I understand can be done by visiting the engineer bloke on Iapetus, but apparently he wants combat bond vouchers for that. So I've been thinking of getting some by killing some faction ships in a CZ with my Mamba.

What I don't know though is when I decide which faction is the ally and which one is the enemy in the CZ, if I manage to destroy any enemy ships, does that mean that NPC ships from that enemy faction will be targeting me for ever from then on? Ie, when I'm out exploring in my Asp, which I've configured with no weapons at all, purely for exploration in Solo mode and which so far has worked fine, if I happen to come across any of those enemy faction ships, will they still be targeting me?

Thanks.

There's no engineer on Iapetus ... and the FSD engineers aren't that interested in combat 🤔

Oh is the wiki site out of date for that as well then? Only according to that it's this one and he's on Iapetus in the Sol System:

no, the CZ is just that a conflict zone. it ends there. npc's forget and forgive fast.
you can do missions for them and repair reputation and become allies and still go to CZ's together. if you wanted to. they won't care a lot.

Ah ok thanks. I might have a go in one of those anyway now as I need to get some combat practice after my several years absence from the galaxy. :)

CZ can be kind of hard and gets much easier with an engineered ship. If your ship is too weak then target opposition ships that already have their shields down and have taken damage to the hull. Like that you'll help with the kills and get your combat bonds without becoming the main target of the opposition.

I did something similar with my new alt account that I started on Monday, I took the new Sidewinder and went to a high res. I just followed the system security ships around and landed some shots when the enemy was close to done. Hardly anyone shot at me, and a few hours later I had a completely A graded Sidewinder and 10 million in bounties for buying a Type-6 to go make more credits. I even found space for a class 1 limper controller and a few limpets to start hovering up manufactured mats. No one paid me any attention as system security was a much bigger threat and my pot shots was such a small danger that they mostly got ignored while the pirates duked it out with system security.
