Question about coop coordination

I just convinced my friend to buy into the world of Elite and we are hoping to start roaming the galaxy as a duo.

To allow me to prepare mentally, is anyone able to advise how easy it is to coordinate games at this time (1.5)

Thanks in advance.

At the moment, I have had limited success in private groups. I can certainly "mostly" catch up with other pilots - Mr Stabler and the inimitable Zaphod ViperTaxBrox chaps when in a private group and in a quiet location (such as a nav beacon).

We have had issues when one pilot goes out of range, trying to find a way back to the other ships and them not appearing when you do. Also had the infamous rubberbanding and occasional timesliced ship damage problems.

We have been able to meet, to test voice and text comms and to share limited amounts of team bounty hunting but beyond that, there's not much to report at the moment.

We've been able to ticket a few bounty irregularities, the crazylegs Viper landing gear deployment sync problem and a cargo scoop/drop/scoop problem, so we've been able to further the testing of the game, but we couldn't really call it co-op gameplay YET.

Looking forward to how it improves.

I play regularly with a friend.
We use Team Speak, and frankly speaking without it would be a nightmare.

Currently we meet up at a station and then use our radar to travel together.

It's a bit clunky at the moment but apparently this area of Co-Op gameplay will improve greatly as future builds are released. (e.g. formation flying)

I believe that FD have implemented/are looking at implementing a fleet system where a member is set as the squad lead. Looking at the Capital Ship battle on the official YouTube page they show this at the very start where the lead controls when the squad jump in and out of Hyperdrive. You may be bored of hearing this but it is Beta. The team seem focused to make the game a friendly experience so I would imagine they will refine the co-op play for launch.

I am yet to make a friend to play ED with. =(

If you are wanting to have a successful group coordination then I suggest you wait until the next release and test the functionality then. The current iteration is somewhat lacking.

Thanks guys. I've played since prem beta but never attempted intentional grouping so its good to know the current state before tearing my hair out :)

Look me up on steam mate if you ever want to roll with a relaxed wingman: psn_tonberry_killer
