Question about Exploration and scanning.

Is there anything in-game that indicates when you've 100% scanned everything in a system? Like, when you highlight it on the galaxy map it has its full info and labelling there, as if its a normal known system? If so, if you only scan some of the planets in the system does it still show up as unknown, or does it have info about it if you at least scan its star?

Thanks in advance guys, I'm just trying to make checking off fully scanned systems off my list a little easier.

Also, if your ships gets destroyed before you cash in your system scan data, do you lose it?

I don't think there's such an indicator. The goal is kind of to not give you any idea of how much of it you explored, otherwise it'd be too easy if the game told you "there's still a planet you haven't found!"

And yes, you lose exploration data, aswell as claimable bounties upon death, so traders aren't the only ones to lose something at death.

Definitely no indication (that I have found).

You always get the primary / secondary / ... star and asteroid belts in a system on the system map, even if you haven't "discovered" any of them, and you get the orbit line of the primary as soon as you scan it, which makes finding the secondary easy. (Finding a ternary, though, can be tricky.)

Planets show up as "unexplored" in the system map if you already detected them (usually through a discovery scanner "ping") but didn't "scan" them yet.

If you don't get data like surface temperature on a "scanned" planet / star, it hasn't been scanned with a detailed surface scanner yet.

But there is nothing, short of a ping with an advanced discovery scanner, that will tell you if there's something undiscovered left.

And as the statistics list "level 2" and "level 3" scans (which are always zero), you can expect those to be added when planetary landings come up.

There is no indicator of a fully scanned system at the moment.

To be certain - you have to advance scan the system then scan every <UNKNOWN> and turn it into a name.

If your ship goes POP so does your data but the system cannot be scanned again

...unless you delete your save and start over. (Yes, some systems will revert to "unexplored" status. I assume it takes a certain number of players doing the exploring for a system to become "common knowledge".)

Cheers for the info, I guess the way it works now makes sense really. It'd be too easy to know when you've fully scanned a system otherwise I guess. Time to start saving up for that Advanced Discovery Scanner!
