Question about HeatSink And Point Defense Turret.

Hello o/

1 ) Heat sink does work passively like its make you cool down faster when having it fitted and launch when its really super hot ....or it only work when you launches it for cooling down ?

2 ) Point Defense Turret - Lets say we have only 1 fitted , 3 missles launched at us ..will it shoots down the 2nd n the 3rd missles after destroying the 1st one ...or we have to have 3 fitted to intercept 3 missles ?

Unfortunately I have no idea about point defense turrets, but I can help you with heat sinks.

The heat sink launcher works by pumping a lot of your ship's heat into a disk, and then launching it when you press the allocated key. (V by default.) It results in rapidly cooling your ship. The flying super hot disk also distracts missiles from your ship as it is much hotter. I hope I helped. :)

I don't think you need multiple point defenses to defend against multiple missiles. I wouldn't equip more than one.

Heat sink launcher – Can be assigned to fire group or launched directly by specified key. All heat that your ship has will be ejected outside and heat level will drop to zero %, but then heat will rise almost instantly to default level depending on what modules your ship have and how much heat they generate. Limited uses, must be bought at station Fuel and Munition section after use. Usefull when you are running in silent mode, because then heat will not jump right back or when your ship heat level is way over 100% and you need to lower it fast – to shoot energy weapons or enter Hyperspace.

Point defence turret – This is automated turret that shoots down incoming missiles. Requires ammunition that can be bought at station Fuel and Munition section.

:)

i have couple now and testing them, because i encountered pirate cobra packed with missiles and they really did harm me ;)

I have 4 on my Lakon Type 9. I have no idea whether it's a good idea or not, but they have a weight of "0" so I thought; "why not?".

exactly ;) zero weight was what sold them to me :)

also i was killed by cobra shooting loads of missiles and now i can't find it anymore to test :)

but seeing that usually after fights my both PDT have used many hundreds of ammo probably they are worth it :)

OK so I "get" heatsinks (tho I didn't know they could be in a firegroup OR activated by a keypress.. how cool!) and I've seen them floating about in combat zones looking for all the world like cargo containers on the scanner... my question is can you pick them up with the cargo scoop (and would you even want to)?

Also, regarding point defence turrets, do you need to have hardpoints deployed to use them? I assume they fire automatically at missiles, so do they need to be in firegroups? Can you fire them manually? Do they fire at anything other than missiles?

I don't know, I just let mine get on with it. They seem to work, but I've not tried seeing if they work before I've deployed my weapons. It used to be possible to fire them at other spacecraft, I don't know if that function is still there though.

never tried to scoop heat sink ;p

point defence turret works completely automatically, they are placed outside ship so forget about them, you will only see how much ammo they have left and replenish that at stations and be fine.

i only see PDT at work when missiles are fired at me from ahead - they nicely blow up ;)
