Newcomer / Intro Question about jump range

According to my outfitting view, I have a current jump range of 20.18 LY.
There is a system 19.7 LY away, but I can't jump straight to it.

Why not?
Are routes static and I have to jump through another system, regardless of my jump range?

What am I missing.

I'm no expert, but laden and unladen figured out, a system in your range might not show up in the Target Panel, but if you select the system from the navigation menu you can jump right to it.

No problem targeting the system, but it adds a jump in between.
Playing around with the galaxy route planner, I'm actually thinking it calculates with a full tank of fuel automatically.

Which means it calculates 16T extra, but I have half a tank of fuel so it should only calculate 8T.

Any alpha/beta players that can confirm this behaviour?

Right, did some testing.
The route planner counts on a full fuel tank.

I was running half a tank, so by offsetting 8T on the route planner, I could plan to the system directly.
Tested it and I could indeed jump.

Good to know.

Switch the route planner to "fastest". Or it ccould be a cargo .problem.

This is probably the correct answer. The route planner defaults to "most economical" route. If you change the filter to "fastest route" it will calculate the jump directly unless you are laden with goods which also affects your jump distances as you weigh more. +1

It's not the correct answer.
I know about fastest route.

I'm sorry if I seemed ignorant in my original enquiry, there was nothing obvious preventing me from jumping the planned route.
No where does it say it counts on a full tank of fuel and not what I am are currently carrying.

From what I experienced, though, it shouldn't be the case. Route planner should always consider an actual weight of the ship in the moment of planning.
Interesting. Worth researching. :)

It's submitted.

It seem to take fuel levels into account on the full route.
It shows dashed lines on the part where there's insufficient fuel, it's just the jump range itself that's miscalculated.

The entire route is probably calculated with current fuel levels, but the jump range is, by error perhaps, calculated with full fuel tank.

Anyway, just a reminder to travellers on the edge of their jump range, offset your missing fuel in the cargo slider to get the correct jumps on your route.
Bug submitted, we'll see what happens.

One last idea (sorry, probably stupid, again) - Check if you haven't accidentally pulled the loadout slider a bit and that it is at minimum.

It is a bug. On another thread someone suggested deleting (moving) custom.misc which worked for me. I have enjoyed the bug for 14 days, since the beginning. So I am elated to be able to travel fast.

There's no bug that I'm aware of. Your potential jump range is impacted by your mass, if you add cargo into the mix then your potential jump range will be reduced due to the increased mass. That is why there is a slider in the galaxy map for setting how much cargo you are carrying. Even the contents of your fuel tank can affect your jump range, you can jump the furthest on 1/4 tank of fuel.

You are correct, at least from my experience. I had the same error. I also had the "fastest" route selected, but no luck. In my case, I had about 2 tons of cargo, and my maximum allowed jump range was still higher than the distance to my desired destination system. I ended up "solving" it by dragging the "cargo" slider to zero, selected the system and activated my hyperspace drive. I jumped! Even though the galaxy map initially "told" me I couldn't. Sounds like you have the same issue, but this time [not due to cargo weight, like me] but due to fuel weight (or lack thereof, to be precise). Hopefully, those bugs go away in v1.1.

also, calculating mass -> jump range -> jump length seems to be missing from something. as it should obviously be in some random tooltip anywhere in the game. like during hyper jump :p

i dont think i've seen calculations for mass -> fuel -> jump radius alltogether on the newcomer forum atleast other than dotted lines where we dont have fuel is the only way to calculate it.

I have another question about jumps.
Often during a route, in the left panel "Navigation -> Location" there isn't the next star system for my jump, but if I go to "galaxy map" I can find it, target it and jump.
Why I can't find it in the Location tab?
tnx

If you have a longer jump range, the number of stars around you is simply bigger than maximum the Locations can show you. (I think it's 30)
