Question about missions

Haven't had a chance to try beta yet as I have been travelling, but I was wondering about something.

Regarding missions, when you are given a kill mission and go to find the target, are they located in open space?, or is the mission always going to 'spawn' into one of those unidentified signal sites?

I'm hoping it's not the latter.

Thanks.

The answer is the latter but to preface that the way USSs work has changed. They are no longer a limited number of static sites as they were in PB.

i.e. to clarify, USSs spawn all over the place now, including deep space.

Quite correct there are a lot more USS's all over the place. You could play the game completely going around looking for them. Some of them have nice surprises too!

So if I take a kill mission to find and kill a trader, all I have to do is find a Uss and fly to it.

That seems a bit 'themepark' to me, I would prefer to have to try and find them by travelling between star ports, doing a bit of stalking etc.

It makes the game seem a bit scripted. .

Perhaps but:
a) I'm assuming that will improve ofc., I'm sure they have that kind of gameplay in mind.
b) There's no guarantee that any given USS you find will contain what you're looking for.

Absolutely, although personally I've studiously avoided the temptation to go and investigate so I don't get distracted from what I've intended to do.

That kind of "discovery" based gameplay is also very attractive though and I hope to spend many hours going down such rabbit holes in due course. :)

I only died on 3 of the 5 I checked out last night. But the other two proved to be nicely profitable.
