Question about my options without the DLC

hey guys, so I noticed there is the planetary suit thingy on my ship, I also noticed that when I'm coming close to a planet I get a notification about activating some sort of orbital landing computer or something, anyways, I don't have the DLC so I guess if ill try to land ill explode right?
Also what are those planetary stations thingy? can I land in them without the DLC?

If you don't have Horizons you can't land on planets - if you come too close to a planet, you will be thrown out of SC in emergency stop just as before.

Back before Horizons was released, we could still manually engage afterburners towards the planet even after being thrown out of SC. As we get nearer, we don't really crash into it... we just sorta pass through it. The planetary textures would suddenly disappear and you'd be staring at empty space again. You can see an example of the behaviour in the video below:

Dunno if it still does that for people without the Horizons DLC.
