Question about Noise Suppressor

In order to perform the silent infiltration of buildings inside settlements, I use the Noise Suppressor on my plasma shotgun. Yeah, I know that is funny - silencer on a shotgun. Although I am not sure if there is a difference in initial radius where the NPCs hear you for different types of weapons. Or is there any?
In some cases when I shoot someone inside the building, some guard runs inside from the outside. So there is some area where the sound can be heard. I wonder if I will install the audio masking - will that area be reduced?

One is for inside settlements, pressurized (noise suppressor) the other is for outside of the buildings, unpressurized (audio masking) so no probably not. Are you sure you are not being seen by other NPCs?

I do not fully understand your questions.

Here some points:
  • if you miss and the bullet hits something close to a NPC; the NPC can hear it.
  • Npc that starts firing back will alarm other NPCs if in range

Maybe you are right, I was thinking of that myself. Can NPCs see through the gateway you enter the building?
Npc that starts firing back will alarm other NPCs if in range
So beside the general alarm system they have some kind of radio with limited range, is that what you are saying?

Both noise suppressor and audio masking silence the weapon shots in their respective environments. Noise suppressor for pressurized environments, audio masking for unpressurized environments. They remain silent if you hit your target person. The target person will yell when they get hit and this can alert others. If you are seen shooting or the target is seen being hit the observers will be alerted. If you miss your target person, even 1 pellet for the shotgun, the impact of your round can be heard and npcs who heard it will investigate. Regardless of what you apply to the rocket launcher, it could be silenced for firing, but the explosion will always make noise. Same discussion if you splode a red barrel.

In summary shots can be silenced using the 2 mods. Impacting a npc is quiet but they make noise when they get hit. Being observed firing or being hit does not make noise but is still enough to aggro npcs. Impacting the environment is not silenced. Explosions always make noise.

Yes. If someone sees or hears you, a radio call will go out first and the base alarm a few seconds later. If you're quick / happen to be in the right place it is sometimes possible to turn the base alarm off, after the radio call, so you end up with some guards looking for you but others not alerted by the main alarm.

I knew I was missing something.
There's a netcode bug where NPCs and/or players might already moved and your game client did not register in time and you think you hit it point blank and actually you have fully missed the shot.

(I know your answer was "a little" towards sarcasm, but still...)

This is why I use the recharge tool in overcharge mode for stealth assassinations... with settlement alarms being off in advance.

Anton Chigurh used one. I find it more silly to have a sound suppressor to suppress sound in space - which is usually vacuuum. Ye, ye I know it's thingistens worlds with "thin atmo". It's so thin you need to wear helmet and how would sound travel there? And if it actually does - at which speed? Point is: The suppressor is a really gamey thing. Done for gameplay. I buy a lot of gamey pollocks but this one I just can't believe. It's too silly, imo.

In space, no one can hear you scream.....

but in the ED 'verse your ships and suits are built to take in the environment around them and replicate the appropriate sounds. The suppressor and masker are devices to stop that from happening.
