Question about PIRACY

Just to spice the game a bit up, I thought about becoming a pirate and hunt down other CMDRs, just for fun.

1. Will my WANTED STATUS change to normal when my ship get's destroyed?

2. How do Pirates make their income? I'm a bounty hunter and it's easy now to make a decent amount of cash?

3. Any ohter important information or hint?

1. no, your wanted status will become temporarily clean with [Dormant] status inside brackets..... So I think if someone scans you it will appear that you were once wanted or smthg.

2. Ask for cargo. A pirate is no psychopath, he wants the cargo of the trader so that he will sell it either as stolen or as normal in the commodities market (if the trader jetisson abandons it).

3. You generally don't kill cmdrs for no reason. That is griefing. You can kill a commander if you order him for example to stall the engines and he tries to run away or smthg. Then you have "the right" since you tried to talk this out but the other party is ignoring you or smthg.

4. Don't spread the wanted status in various systems. I suggest you pirate in a specific system (with no major controlling faction preferably)

2. Go to a war zone instead of a res zone. When pirating an area you will create war zones if your clever or proffesional but this also depends on your intentions and motivations.

3. Stick with the basics, go learn them in USS or something. Then up your game. If you good you will make plenty of creds. Pirating is not a poor profession. It's also a thinking profession. You got to play smart.
Then you will make very good creds.

- You should wear your Wanted status with pride, never pay it off. There is no point.

2. How do Pirates make their income? I'm a bounty hunter and it's easy now to make a decent amount of cash?

- You will not make a huge amount. You will make enough to cover spares and a little profit. If you pirate in rare routes, you need a ship that is happy to make long jumps as you will often grab locals and need to take the 120lys to make any money from them.
The most profitable areas are CG's running imperial slaves or high value metals but you will also be hunted by Bounty Hunters and Do gooders in the area and they will heavily cut into your profits.

3. Any ohter important information or hint?

- You need a ship that can mass lock and has decent speed. Asp is probably the best cheapest pirate ship, the Cobra is great for speed but cannot mass lock the good stuff.
Interdict, make your demand. If they run, shoot them and try to smash open their cargo hatch ( Limpets are a bit meh at the moment ) . If they keep running or give you any form of attitude, destroy them and move onto the next one. Plenty of cattle out there.

Apologies if I seem blunt TheoZ, but thats just rubbish.

Destroying a CMDRs ship without reason is unsporting, nothing more. Griefing is intentionally, and repeatedly, attempting to cause personal upset for another player.

OP: Be a good sport about it, your game and the community as a whole will be better for it. I agree with the comments here, apart from the titbit noted above which only serves to create division within the community. Pirating is most fun when you have some good banter, even if you don't manage to obtain a reward. Understandably, people won't want to give there stuff away free, so have some fun banter, and they may be more inclined to give you stuff as reward.

To clarify, heres a quote from the ED Lead Designer, its very clear on the matter:
Griefing:

So, we've said we don't mind bad guys. In fact, we go further; we have bad guy gameplay options (piracy, smuggling etc.) By default, this includes psychopathic behaviour - randomly attacking other player "because you can".

get used to scooping and shooting cargo hatches, thats my advice! :p

Good advice there!

Also note, with the next update(1.3 Power Play) later this month, you'll have access to drones that can collect the cargo for you. That said, scooping cargo is a great way to improve your skill handling the ship.

-1 rep for you. -100 if I could. So much carebear-minded advices.

To OP, go interdict anyone and ask for cargo. If they refuse, kill them. If they succumb and give you cargo but you don't like him somehow, kill him. That doesn't make you to be a psychopath, it's his fault to be interdicted and being defenseless.

The more you becoming wanted in major systems with high population(players), you get more fun. I guarantee it. There is no point of becoming pirate if you will sit in dead systems forever. One thing you must know though, piracy is not a good profitable profession under the current game build.

Well, there you have it OP, now you have the full range of advice.

You can be someone people enjoy interacting with, or a selfish c--k about it. Both are valid game-play choices, the choice is yours.

Be a selfish c--k. Its way more fun!

Go get them Pirate!

Extra points if you can knock an uninsured player back to a sidewinder!

I chucked when I read the bit about griefing, then again when I read the selfish self censor bit.

Do what you like OP. Some people will be more than willing to drop you some cargo when you ask. Others will run immediately. Kill them all, or kill none of them. The choice is yours. Welcome to ED.

1. No, it will become dormant, then if you're scanned by the cops in that jurisdiction you'll get your bounty back.

2. Pirates make their income by selling goods they "borrow" from others. If you're pirating only for the money, it's not worth it. Pirates make close to the least amount of cr/hr. It's a very feast or famine profession.

3. A. Against cmdrs, it pays to ask first, some players give up cargo without a fight, not many but some. Use a Macro program to quickly type of out your threats and intentions.

B. Get a heavy fast ship. The clipper is the best pirate ship in the game. It's fast can hold a lot of cargo, can mass lock every ship other than the anaconda. Failing that the asp, and if you can't afford that, the cobra. The asp is slow but if you upgrade the drives you should be able to keep up with every ship except a cobra and clipper. The cobra is fast but can't mass lock worth a damn. You'll only be able to stop haulers, adders, and other cobras.

C. Limpets are good to have as a back up but they're not going to get you much cargo. They're kinda meh atm.

D. Get good at aiming, shooting out the hatch and drives of a moving ship is hard. If your aim isn't good, you'll kill your target more often than not. A dead target gives no cargo.

E. Always pay attention to your comms, sometimes traders change their minds after you start shooting, if you don't stop firing quickly, they won't change their minds again.

F. A pirate keeps his word. If you say you'll let them live if they drop cargo, let them live if they drop cargo. If you say you'll kill them if they don't drop cargo, kill them if they don't drop cargo. Noone trusts a pirate that doesnt keep his word, and noone fears a pirate that doesn't back up his threats.

G. Be wary of traders who feign cooperation while their fsd charges. Traders think they'll clever but it's a pretty common tactic. There's no way of knowing whether they shut down their fsd. Pay attention to how much fsd time they should have left and blow them up if they don't drop cargo quick enough. If you think they're stalling, don't risk it or at least be ready to jump yourself to chase them again.

Thanks folks for all that advice. I'll think about it. I like to spice the game up and make it a bit harder and be a bit more on the non conventional side and be baaaaaaaaad. Sure it will make more fun then as the game itself is a bit boring as is (1.2). and I like player interaction with real CMDRs and a clean fight. Nothing is a boring as fighting against NPCs.

Pirating is a hobby. Nets next to no income. The interraction with other CMDRs is fun so I do it mainly for this.
Don't let anyone scan you for any reason. You will receive a fine with half the value of the illicit loot. Not fun.
Limpets are your friends. It can pirate NPCs as well. Once I found an NPC who dropped 16 tons of imperial slaves.
