Question about PP pledging and trading

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I've been scanning the forums for a couple of days and not seen a clear answer. I'm mostly a trader with some smuggling on the side since PP, and I'd like to sign up with one of the powers (still making up my mind, probably Li Yong-Rui). From the various discussions and videos, it seems like once you've reached the goals for preparation/expansion/fortification for the cycle it's a waste of resources to do any more, so I was planning on returning to whatever my current trade route is after performing my civic duties for my power, and coming back on the next cycle to do it all over again. However, there is a possible problem and this is where my question comes in: trade routes know no borders, and although I take precautions with my freighter (it's a shield-tank python) it's otherwise optimized for jump range which means it's not at all geared for combat. If I pledge to a power, does it mean that any time I stray outside its borders I'll be constantly getting attacked?

Pledging to a power I think creates more enemies no matter where you are. I'm getting interdicted everywhere lots by other factions. I dont know if this would happen if I had no power.

You don't have to pledge to receive the exploitation bonuses mentioned on the stats screen of a power. However, I haven't had a problem with being constantly interdicted due to being hostile. Even when Wanted, I'm usually left unbothered. If you end up having an issue, remember that a hyperjump cannot be mass factored. (unless near a station) Also, remember that Hostile in regards to Power Play factions IS NOT the same as being Hostile to a minor or major faction. Stations will not suddenly dislike you if you pledge.

I do a rares route where most everywhere I gather them at is hostile. It adds more tension to the run. More fun, I say.

Thanks! I know about exploitation bonuses applying to everyone (rebought my scout last night at Goldstein and saved about a million after outfitting it), I want to do PP mostly for roleplaying reasons.
