Question about release time.

Hi guys,
I always struggle with how games are released across the globe so I wonder of someone could explain this to me please.

AU and NZ game drops at midnight 26/27th according to their PlayStation ED countdown timer.

My first question is; is the server network global?

If it is, what stops people who own a hard copy (received early by post) in the UK or US joining the server network 12 or more hours before their official release time?

I suspect the answer to my first question is "yes" but I didnt ask the right question, iyswim..

as far as i know the actual time of release is usually based on the time zone the company is based, so FDev will release at midnight BST on the 27th. thats as far as my knowledge goes, no doubt if you wait around a bit stormyuk or someone else will have a better answer

Frontier are located in England and perform maintenance "globally" during local business hours, and from previous experience you should expect release to have happened somewhere between 12:00 and 17:00 UTC.

"The servers" are all located in Ireland except for small regional services that handle matchmaking. Game client and server need to run compatible versions, so as long as that matches, you would be able to play. You may be able to play the tutorials before the servers go live, but I wouldn't even assume that the discs (that would have been finalised weeks ago) contain the client binaries necessary for "the real game".

Thanks. However, I have seen a screenshot of the countdown timer for someone in NZ and its definitely 12 hours ahead of mine.

It is one of the questions that we have asked FDev to answer on the Thursday stream.
In addition to the PS4 servers going live for us on the 27th, there is also the planned update of the back end servers, deploying 2.3.10 to live.

We have asked if the two deployments are linked and whether it will impact us.

We have asked for FDev to give us an overview of the timings that they have planned for the 27th and how it will affect our ability to launch the PS4 game.

I live in Finland +2 hours to you brexit people and i have always been able to play games at midnight exact.

I also would like to know this answer, FD said servers go live 12BST, so does this mean at 7 pm Eastern it will be able to be accessed? I cant pick up my copy until 9 that night but would really love if I popped the disc in and I can at least create my character plus play training.

I was referring to the Brexit slur not which regions have access when. Would be interesting to find out whether its up to FDev or PSN when the game goes live and how server down time will affect the launch.

For some of us, especially in the US, the 27th is actually the 26th. Which is why some of us will be playing at, say, 9pm on the 26th - and even earlier in the day on the 26th in places like Hawaii.

Basically, anyone in a timezone behind GMT is playing the game on the 26th, ahead of the 27th launch.

I pick my copy up at 9 that Monday night, I really hope you are right and will be able to get some flight time in that night before I go to bed. I wont be able to fall asleep I see it now.

Actually it doesn't matter where you are in the world the server goes live for everyone at the same moment in time. Everything else is an illusion

Doesn't PSN choose when players can access the games? They may only allow access at 00:00 in any region, meaning some PS4 players will be playing before others.

I preordered Friday the 13th and when I received my code it was around 10pm. They said on Twitter that servers wouldn't go live until midnight. Just out of curiosity, I decided to fire it up when it was done downloading around 1030 just to see if it hopefully worked. TO my surprise it did. But I am not saying that ED will work like F13 did. That company is small and has made a ton of errors so it was a mess up on there part, and FD seems to be a developer that has there stuff together. I just hope it works that evening, even if its training I don't care I just want to fly. Because if it don't, that next day at work is going to be awful waiting 10 hours to get out of there.
