Newcomer / Intro Question about scanners and fire-groups.

just bought a kill warrant scanner and i think it needs to be assigned to a firegroup. something ingame popped up about it.

now, do i assign it to the 1st firegroup (where my weapons are located) or another one?
what do i do about my basic scanner? where do i assign that?

when these are allocated to whatever firegroup what buttons do i press to activate/use them?
- do they even need to be used, or just fuinction on there own passively?

Its up to you how to have your firegroups configured, but scanners must be fired manually to function and how you configure them depends on your loadout.

A firegroup only have 2 individual triggers, one primary and one secondary. So if lets say your first firegroup has a pulselaser on primary and multicannon on secondary, there is no room for a scanner.
Then you could make a second firegroup where you have your kill warrant scanner on primary fire and discovery scanner on secondary.

When cruising around youd have your secondary firegroup selected letting you fire of your scanners.
As soon as you enter combat you change to firegroup 1 and youll be ready to fire.

Hope this helps.

Edit: forgot to add, you must bindnkeys for primary/secondary fire and changing firegroups.

This is not entirely correct. You can have a Kill Warrant Scanner bound right along with one of your weapon groups.
I have mine configured so that it scans at the same time my weapon fires. That way while sustaining beam fire, for example, I'm also scanning for warrants outside the current system.
It's a time saver.

That is an astoundingly brilliant idea. You've made my day.

ive got my scanner linked to the blue slots on, but it does nothing or nothing happens when i press or hold my mouse2.
even when targetting a ship close up. nothing happens.

same thing seems to apply to my basic scanner aswell. doesnt seem to do jack when i press/hold mouse2.
