question about sensors

Does increasing the range of ur sensors mean that u can see more targets in the contacts window (because the sensors have greater range)?

meaning better sensors are better for pve bounty hunting in res/nav

dumb question maybe but pls help appreciated

ty in advance

This isn't a dumb question at all.
Yes this does make it to where you can see and target more ships in a wider range. It may not look like it at first though you will have to zoom out on your radar. This is currently the only real reason to upgrade your sensors past D.

From my understanding of it the higher the grade of sensor, the farther out you can "see". But that's it. You will gain no advantage in terms of weapons lock or tracking.

As you surmised, yes, when hunting in RES zones you do have the advantage of finding targets from a greater range.

That being said, you will have the disadvantage of having less power for your weapons, shields, etc.

Fly well Cmdr.....

I generally always fit D-grade sensors because it's rare you'd need to track a target beyond 5km. When it comes to finding pirates in RESes I find using the mark 1 eyeball to watch for distant laser flashes is far more effective than watching the scanner for new contacts anyway.

One thing that the best sensors in the world can't compete with is your ability to distinguish mining lasers from combat lasers. Those can be seen from (in most cases) much greater distance than even "A" grade sensors.

When I am in RES areas I am ALWAYS doing a "passive" scan with my eyes for multiple/crisscrossing/bunchs of laser fire. When I see that its change direction and BOOST, BOOST and prepare for battle. Eventually the sensors will identify what my eyes locked on,,,,;)

I really have to learn how to type faster. Kudos to those who beat my slow typed answers!!!

One last point to consider is that with "a" grade sensors you may be able to find a juicer target than that Viper or Cobra you are currently targeting. Once I have identified a target that is easy enough to see visually, I will still keep flicking through the target selector until I am close to opening fire on the first choice.

Just in case the sensors pick up a bigger fish to fry......... ;)

how do u do that?

PgUp/Dn changes the scanner scale. By default it's set to 500m, or standard effective weapons range. I generally zoom it out once (which I presume sets it to about 1000m) to be able to better tell when someone's close to me without the middle of the scanner getting cluttered when there's lots of ships close by.
