Question about silentrunning and signature

When I fly my Eagle mostly idle after some time the 'heat generated' will go down to 0. Frost will show, signature is almost non existed if flying straight even at top speed and shields up (silent running is off).

Is this effect the same as activating silent running?

I had this going on tonight. The only difference I can tell between this occurring and silent running mode is that when you run silent, the shield genny is turned off. Otherwise I can see no difference in the power settings.

Is this a glitch, maybe?

yes, its a glitch most prolly. upon running in normal mode in an eagle, it will freeze after like 6-7 minutes. one way to make your signature visible again, is to use the boost :)
i had this glitch triggered/happening without using weapons, silentrunning, or other devices switched off.
until this gets fixed, may i suggest to go to an resource extraction site, and harvest some credits? hehe

Silent running turns off shields and importantly, radiators.

One can run cool but if the radiators are open, still be targeted (as I learned attempting to glide past some NPCs.

By manually turnning off engines, shields and radiators, one can stay silent in the three ships I've flown without having to use heat sinks.

The Eagle runs cool, the Cobra runs hot. Sidewinder is intermediate.

In any ship you can turn off cargo scoop, this saves some % of power usage.
I wonder what are the consequences off turning off power distribution besides not being able to adjust your settings. If this is off does your power distribution returns to 2/2/2 state?

It would be cool to do some tests if a ship can be targeted while running with 0% heat but in normal mode.

What do you mean by iddle exactly? Pic shows you full balst no? Or is it FA OFF?

I mean not to maneuver a lot. Speed does not matter apparently. After burner unfreezes the ship quite fast :D

So your call is that radiators is what matters not the signature gauge?

If really only the heat vents (radiators) matter, they should be the only system directly affected by enabling cool running (be retracted then). Heat builds up then depending on the enabled systems which makes it possible to even have shields enabled when running cool.

has anyone here ever heard of inertia?

your ship is cooling because you aren't putting out any thrust, it's just your other systems drawing their normal power. apparently the eagle has good cooling.

but i think the signature shouldn't disappear completely; i'd send in a ticket about that.

"silent running" mode means that your vents are closed (no internal heat escapes) and shields shut down. so with that you should lose what signature you (should) have left "on idle".

So you are assuming that engines are shut down even with "FA on" when no changes in direction and speed are done. That would make sense. :)

Regarding the heat vents I suppose these are the only places where heat can leave the ship by design to enable silent running.

Disabling the shields for silent running makes no sense to me besides saving energy to minimize heat generated by the power plant.

I wonder what makes ship move when you manually disable the engine, max speed then is about 20+.

I noticed if you disable power distribution and enable again it remembers the pips setup. So, I think we can save on power that way. Set your powers, disable the controller. If you don't fiddle with it often it might be quite useful in lowering power draw.
