Question about targeting

Hi,
new player here...

Question about targeting...when doing the training mission I your ship has some sort of 'aim assist' where the reticles for your lasers auto find the target if your cross hair is relatively close to the target. How come in open play, I no longer have this auto assist?

In open play you have fixed weapons, in the training missions you likely had gimballed weapons.

Gimballed weapons "lock on" but do slightly reduced damage, and can be countered by chaff. They're also more expensive to purchase than their fixed counterparts.

Theres also turreted weapons, which you don't really need to worry about.

Gotcha...thanks. I have such issues aiming with fixed then.

Question about shields: If the target has, say 100% shields and I quickly knock him down to 85% but then cant land a hit for 10 seconds or so...is he regenning his shields after a short time? Like, in most games where you have a shield mechanic, not even flight sim, you regen your shields after not taking damage for X amount of seconds...do we know what that threshold is? Or do the shields regen after they are completely gone for X amount of seconds?

And I suppose the # percentage of the enemy ship refers to its hull, not shielding, yes?

correct, the % is overall the remaining ship integrity, drop that to zero the ship goes boom.

Shields are represented by circles around the ship diagram when you're locked on, when they're down it's replaced with a hollow circle that slowly fills up indicating the shields are recharging, only when that circle has filled with the shields reinitialize, however they do not reinitialize at 100% and can be quickly knocked back down (normally however scbs are an advanced mechanic that will be changing soon)
