Question about the diamondback terrapin

I noticed that the diamondback terrapin in game is actually the Northern diamondback terrapin according to the map in the zoopedia and its scientific name (Malaclemys terrapin terrapin). Is there any reason for Frontier to choose this specific subspecies or is it another of their weird decisions? I'm genuinely asking, since I don't know much about this species and I haven't been able to find much info. Is this Northern subspecies the most common in captivity?

Honestly, I just think the staff at Frontier at times has been a little confused about when to include subspecies and when not to. Maybe the reference picture they used for the model was stated as being this subspecies, or the source for the Zoopedia info might have been about this subspecies. I don't think it has been done in as much of an intentional way as it is the case with animals like tigers and leopards.
