Question about the stars viewed from the window of your ship

I have been curious about this for some time and wondered if anybody else knows if the stars that you see from your ship are accurately represented as seen on the galaxy map?

I think it would be great if there was a button that you could press and any of the nearest stars within your range would be labelled. I would love to see SOL as a dot far away and from a scientific point of view that would be really cool. I know that David B wanted to accurately create our galaxy to the best of the scientific knowledge so I thought this would be a great addition however I don't know if 1. the stars that you see are just a random background image or 2. they are a actually an accurate representation of the galaxy map.

thanks

The skybox around you is generated on hyperjump based on the nearest stars to your current location. So yes, if you travel to the other side of the galaxy you can see what the sky is like from there.

AFAIK they're actually a representation of the Galaxy Map.

Would really like a feature that labelled the nearby ones so you can appreciate the detail that the development team went to. I remember when the Mars rovers captured a photo "You are here" a few years back and I thought that was amazing.

If you have a permit for Sol(?), you can select it (or any other system) as a jump destination(dont plot a course, use it as a direct destination, even if you're not in range), if you're not too far away it will be selected on your HUD.

It wont work if you're thousands of LY away, you wouldnt be able to see it anyway from such a distance.

If you want to see Sol from your current location, go to the galaxy map, and type Sol into the search box. Click on Sol and choose it as a destination (not a route). Return to the game, and orinate your ship towards the destination by using the compass (to the left of the radar).

You can now see Sol. :)
