Question about Titan Thermal Core

Attempting attack runs on a Titan, and after 4 or so nanite torpedos I get a message saying the core is exposed. By the time I get my ship over to the other side, however, the vent is already closing before I can get in range to deal any damage. What am I missing here?

I also tried in open, however the core seemed to be bugged or stuck, at it was permanently exposed with 0% health.

As I understand, ideally you want to be back on the side of the Titan with the thermal core as it is coming out, else you won't have enough time to shoot it. Especially with 4 sabotaged vents which will reduce how long it is out.

Thanks. Is there a way to make the core exposed for longer?

The only way is to hit more vents, should come with practice(if you can get good enough to achieve that level) - but there are also video guides around for ‘how to’ on Titans and how to hit all eight(8) vents in one go, even solo.

(Someone else may have those links handy, bit lazy about digging them up right now.)

o7 CMDR, in a fast ship and if you plan your route carefully you can take 6 vents out (I have not been able to do more in a single run) then dive to the other side then you have more time on the core. I am sure you'll do it after a few attempts.

Good luck,

What I do is wait by a vent until the current cycle finishes. Then when the cycle restarts, immediately pop a heat sink, shoot the vent in front of you, boost to the next vent and rinse & repeat. When the vents close, pop another heat sink, and boost to the other side of the titan and unleash everything at the core. When the core retracts, pop another heat sink and get outa Dodge to the asteroid field. When all the baddies lose interest, repeat. This may involve synthesizing heat sinks.

Well, it looks like Mechan just put this out so let me go ahead and plug it. It should cover your needs.

The other useful ones I spoke of -

A slightly less serious (but still useful? probably ...) version of the beginner's guide...

Thanks for all the tips, CMDRs. The unlock for me was using a faster ship. I was trying to use a Conda because that was my previous build for exploring Maelstroms, but it's clear to me speed is king when it comes to damaging Titans.

I do the same as cmdr SlickPBW and yes make sure to stock up on heat sink mats they are cheap to trade for at a materials trader and you will be synthing tons of em. Cmdr Mechan's guides are solid he knows his stuff so definitely give them a looksie he also has vids on YouTube where you can see how he does his runs. He hits a lot of vents by turning perpendicular to the titan and going around it like a ferris wheel.

For sure a faster more agile ship helps need to be around 500 while boosting or close to it imo. Fast and cold is the key either low emissions power plant, lots of heatsinks or preferably both. Good luck o7

Just curious, seems some people use a lot of heatsinks. Why not beam with thermal vent? You can boost round the vents (can get up to six in solo) dropping torpedoes, temp never goes above 14%. Temps never go above 2% when throwing missiles at the core. The only time I'm popping a heatsink is when trying to outrun Glaives.

There is a bit of time between the vents closing and core exposing. With practice, if you feel like its about to happen, it probably is and start making your way down.

People doing this want to use an additional Missile Rack to deal more damage to the core, and ditch the TV beam for that

With 4x AX missile racks (Sirius ones are better), I managed to do 4M credits of damage in one run. Others probably have done even more damage.

This is my MO (perfected after a dozen failed runs): pop only 3 vents, then immediately fly to the core. I've managed to get there even before it comes out and comfortably do more sustained damage. I fly in Solo in this.

Hope this helps. Good hunting! o7
