What does triple A actually mean?
It's an informal term used to describe games created by mid to large companies with a good-sized budget.

Most triple-A games have budgets in the hundreds of millions.
In 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was released after a 265 million dollar budget was spent to produce it.

It usually means it's a remake of a remake of 18 sequels, made by EA, and will for no reason, cost more than a non Triple A game. Lol
Joking aside, it's basically the gane equivalent of a "blockbuster" movie. Even if the movie is crap, like say, Transformers 15 or whatever the latest one was, it's still a big release.

Shovelware that looks good but plays like crap because of grindy progression system. Costs full price and has loot boxes in. That's tirple A in a nutshell.

In the video game industry, AAA (pronounced "triple A") or Triple-A is a classification term used for games with the highest development budgets and levels of promotion. A title considered to be AAA is therefore expected to be a high quality game or to be among the year's bestsellers.
Triple A is also slang anti air guns.
I've always associated the term with it's potential for raising high revenue after high expenditure in development. I've seen plenty of AAA games come out that did just that but were "rubbish" to play or "excellent" to play with all points along that range. Basically I see it as a financial description rather that any indication of how much I'll enjoy it.
Effectively it's all the term means. Financially, as in how much they spent to make it, how much they'll charge for it, how much they'll blow on marketing it, and how much they can get out of the customers via microtransactions/lootboxes after initial purchase.
Publishers like EA, Activision/Bungie, etc.
Triple A? Nah Triple H `s better.
