How far out are they supposed to appear? I'm 7.5kLY out from Sol and still finding them. I am roughly heading towards the Heart & Soul nebulas. I just find it a bit odd to find them out this far.
I don't know if there is an in-game limit for this. Maybe, it's near 10,000Ly (as indicated by Andrew). My own experience is having a close encounter with an USS at a bit more than 9,800Ly during DWE.
I'm coming in from my long trip and I've been seeing them from 10k in consistently.
degraded emissions 0 threat. However I don't chance it. I leave them alone.
