Question about volcanism

I've been wondering this for a while, but can someone explain exactly how volcanoes/geysers work in the game in terms of knowing whether a planet actually has them or not? More specifically, does the fact that a detailed surface scan of a landable body indicates that the body has volcanoes/geysers on it actually mean that for sure somewhere on the surface there's a volcano you can find? Or does is simply indicate that there's a possibility that one might spawn there?

In other words, does 'volcanism' on a body definitely mean that it's there to be found, or is it more often than not just the exploration equivalent of clickbait?

As far as I know if the DSS says there is volcanicity, then somewhere on the planet there is. However, finding it without any tools is a different story. There is a thread about it in the same subforum.
