Question: Firing on Wanted ships inside the no-fire-zone.

If a target is spotted as a Wanted inside the no fire zone and the cops are engaging it, can I help out or do i have to wait for the cops to finish their thing? :D

The police has always more rights than the rest of the population. :D (I've not tested it out in ED yet)

I tried this at an outpost and didn't get penalized, but I'd be scared to try it at a station which can actually enforce the no fire zone.

last time i fired my weapons inside a no fire zone i got a fine, got a fine for dumping stolen cargo inside the station as well :)

I would love FD to implement permits for bounty hunters, thus giving "permission" to engage wanted felons within no-firing zones. One permit per faction, perhaps renewed monthly yearly as a DD (if you have enough funds to cover).

I haven't read the DDA (et al.), so I apologise if this is already in the pipeline.

Dropped into an outpost station last night along with about 4 other ships. I had scanned them in SC so I knew one of them was wanted. Boosted over to them and already the old bill were laying into this wanted guy, so I scanned him again, waited for the wanted to pop up then finished him off and got a 10K bounty.

Unfortunately the old bill were a little peeved that I'd stolen their kill so started attacking me, so full shields/boost and got out of there intact. :D

At no time were we anywhere near the station.

I just came out of my hanger in a coriolis space port and there was a ship there just sitting still. He was slowly getting zapped by the internal lasers but his shields kept recharging a came on every now and then. I scanned him and he was obviously wanted. I wanted to finish him off but alas its a 'no fire zone'. Exactly as it says I am afraid so I left it to be finished by the internal laser system!

I've done this before, got a fine for firing in the NFZ but didn't get attacked by the police or station. The fine was pretty small as it was only for violating the NFZ, I didn't get fined for assault/murder and the bounty more than paid the fine. Would do it again.

Shoot in No fire zone you get fined (tried once, twice - keep getting fined) - you shoot someone you get wanted and if you're too close to the outpost/station it'll open up on you.

Maybe you get wanted if you keep firing at nothing in no fire zone too - haven't tested any limit on that yet.

I fired on a Wanted target just out of a station... Nothing untoward happened, continued on my way and when I came back, picked up the bounty.

I tried this, and I was certain I was outside the no-fire zone when I did it, and got blown up. Was pretty certain about the circumstances, so I'm paranoid to try again.

Shooting in the no fire zones get you a fine, but if you hit someone you haven't scanned, or the station, you will get wanted and the station and police npcs will open fire on you.
Make sure you scan the ship before you shoot them and you will be ok.

I just saw law enforcement firing on a wanted individual outside a station. I approached and to my pleasure I found that this fight was happening outside the no-fire zone! So I deployed my hardpoints and helped take down the criminal. However, as soon as I fired on him the law enforcement turned on me! I did not accidentally shoot any of them, my target was definitely wanted, and I was well outside of the no-fire zone. I am very confused and in the future I will try not to fire my weapons anywhere in the vicinity of a station. :(

What part of the 'no fire zone' is difficult to understand?

Good answer. Gives a lot of information on question asked.

This is from: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Station
No Fire Zone

All stations have an area surrounding them designated a no fire zone. You are notified each time your ship enters and exits this area. You will also receive a message when your ship enters this zone to retract your weapons, should they be deployed at the time. Station defences will activate and open fire on your ship if you should fire any of your weapons within the no fire zone or you will be fined. Using any scanner within the no fire zone is perfectly legitimate and legal.
Dumping any cargo within the no fire zone will get you fined.
Travelling faster than 100 m/s in a no fire zone will give you a reckless flying fine if you are in a collision with another ship, however this does not apply for speeds under 100 m/s. If a collision, no matter the speed, results in a ship being destroyed you will be charged for murder and have the station open fire on you.
