Question for anyone who has worn (or will see) the Pimax 8K/5K prototypes

If you've had a chance to try a Pimax 8K (or 5K) prototype, did you notice any chromatic aberrations? That is, were there red/blue fringes at the edges of the display? This is the same effect as a prism splitting white light into a rainbow of colors.

I'm concerned about this, since the wider FOV (field of vision) will likely make the chromatic aberration particularly noticeable.

https://forums.oculus.com/vip/discussion/32/correcting-for-chromatic-aberration
https://xinreality.com/wiki/Chromatic_aberration

This is something which is fixable in software: The red/green/blue planes can be pre-distorted with the inverse chromatic transform. "Fixing chromatic aberration in software is usually done by applying the classic "Brown's model" distortion correction formula to each color channel independently, using slightly different distortion coefficients for each color channel, thus changing the red, green and blue color channel to a different scale."

If you are planning to go to see a demo of the 8K, please look for this and if you see it, ask Pimax, "What are their plans to fix it? Will it be fixed by January, in time for the initial delivery?"

Thanks!

I have read a few reviews and they say there is none. Here look for yourself.

Those two videos are exactly why I asked the question. I do see some chromatic aberration. But that's not unexpected when you try to make a video looking through a Fresnel lens. The camera is unlikely to be positioned exactly where your eyes would be. That matters a lot.

I'm really interested in a first-hand experience, not because I might cancel my Pimax order, but to make sure they are aware of the problem, which can easily be corrected in software, preferably, before they deliver the units.

That's reassuring, but I'd still like to hear a first-hand account, from someone independent and who knows what to look for.

I found this quote on Reddit... "The screen/lens combo is so far ahead of the current Oculus and Vive it's ridiculous. No screen door, little to no rays or ghosting... no chromatic aberration or "ripples" from a fresnel lens, no visible sub pixels, no noticeable smearing Despite looking bulky. "

That's exactly what I was hoping for, but I'd love to hear it from more than 1 source.

The better reviews will be the next production model with hardware IPD adjustment. You should start seeing reviews within a week or so they are just starting to get this next model out there. Hardware IPD will allow better convergence as people will be able to correctly set the IPD for themselves. Watch the official Pimax forums for information.

I didn't notice any on the last demo, but I'll keep it in mind the next one - I'm SFBay based, so I am confident i'll get to see one of the newer models sooner rather than later.
