The medium hardpoints on a Cobra.

Will mines work here? I've heard stories of bad hardpoint placement causing mines to detonate on the launch ship. :|

Isn't that just the 2x class 2 HP on an ASP? fire them off and the hit the rear fins?

Well I'm asking because I have no experience with mines. I have no idea how far away from the ship they go when launched.

So you can fit mine launchers to your own ship and hit yourself? Awesome game design right there if true. LOL

it's around 50 m distance you need not to take damage. quite close. ion disruptor special is fun, as well as shift lock canister and reverberating cascade. but i don't think many players will be stupid enough to fly into mines these days, as well as higher ranked AI. pve i mainly use them for base attacks/skimmer missions.

If you fit mines to the medium HP at the front make sure to apply a little downward thrust when launching and they will be fine. 2 smalls underneath, no worries at all.

Well, designers of war aircraft made similar mistakes in real life. There are accounts in WW2 of some aircraft just blowing up when the bomb release was triggered because the design was faulty. Of course they fixed it or got rid of the design pretty quickly. Even then when it worked you still have to time your bomb detonation timer right or risk blowing yourself up. Mistakes are still made today... We are only Human.

It was the remote controlled Lancasters that were not very safe. To say the least.
A dumb bomb is armed by centrifugal force, as are several RPG's and mortar grenades, this system is very, very safe.
The main grievances, were things leaking oil on windscreens, planes being insufferable hot, planes with no outlook, planes with too narrow undercarriage and planes that were just so underwhelming or generally poorly designed, that they were flying coffins.

Cheers Cmdrs

During WWII there were some designs of torpedo that were either unsafe or dud. There were occasions when some torpedoes were dropped by the Fairey Swordfish and detonated on impact with the water, and the US Navy had issues with early torpedoes that would not go off when they hit their target (IIRC the contact detonator broke under the impact before they could trigger).

Reminds me of one time playing IL2 that I set the fuse timer too short. I made an ultra low level bombing run and was briefly puzzled as to why my plane was struggling to climb. A brief look at the external camera revealed that my plane no longer had any wings and I crashed very soon after that.
