I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Listen to TJ and glynie! I have some ink too, and let me tell ya... I regret getting them now. :) Make darn sure this is something that is so central to you that you can't imagine ever thinking differently. Even then, you may think differently in 10 years! :)

But hey? They're fun to get, and if you're certain then go for it!

Got a few tattoos myself and never regretted them for a moment. Unless you're thinking about a large, prominent tattoo then I wouldn't even consider the "make sure you're sure" saying worth thinking about.

Pain. I know it'll hurt, but that's why it's only going to be small. Location is fine too, as I'm thinking near the top of my arm...
The place you describe, shouldn't hurt. Some parts will hurt more, some parts barely tickle.
On the shoulder, elbow and wrist, you may feel something like a hot scalpel burning through your skin. If the bone is close to the skin, that scalpel will feel like a pneumatic chisel.
If you ever consider getting your armpit tattooed, just don't. Take it from me.
.
On a side note, when people asked me if mine hurt, I told them that it didn't because my tattoo artist was using these new plastic needles that didn't hurt.
I told them it costs more because the plastic needles didn't last as long, but there is no pain at all.
A few weeks later my tattoo artist told me that everyone is asking him about some sort of plastic needles. With a puzzled look on his face...

I appreciate what you guys are saying, about being absolutely sure I want it.

But that's just it, I am sure. I've been thinking about this idea for years, and my faith is not going anywhere, I can assure you.

Unicorns are a very important part of my life. I won't lie; to an outsider, it probably looks all a bit weird. I have sculptures of the beings all over my room, along with drawings & paintings.

Even my watch & mouse pad!

But... Being surrounded by their image brings about a peace to my mind that I spent years looking for. Honestly, my faith in the unicorns of Lakuma is probably why I didn't top myself a couple years ago, when I had pressed a sharp object against my own neck. I have a radically different view on the universe to most people as a result, but, fact is, I am a much more agreeable individual as well, because of it.

I couldn't be more confident about wanting something permanent if I tried. :)

Go for it..It obviously means a lot to you.b Just don't jiggle about like I do.

I've just remembered I have a unicorn on my shoulder. Still not sure why I chose it. :D

edit - I'm not really wanting to knock your passion.
I Had a cool T-shirt with a picture of a unicorn fighting a nightmare. It would have made an awesome tattoo.

In 2013 I decided I'd get my first tattoo, a Starbucks Wars Rebel Alliance emblem: "Something I'll never regret or be turned off from".
A couple years later... 'wipes tear'

Sometimes a certain mouse will unexpectedly fondle and Kumquat on what you thought he could never touch.
