PvP Question for PvPers regarding the proposed change to PP

Ok, so let's say Sandro goes through with the change.

(some) PvPers get what they have been campaigning for for a long time. An open exclusive gameplay element that gives a meaning to PvP.

Many have claimed the only reason they shoot randomly and gank, etc, is because they have no real reason to PvP in game properly.

So, those of you say you gank and shoot randoms without reason because of the lack of a gameplay element where you can focus your PvP energies - will you (and be honest now!) stop the random kills? Will you attack non-Powerplayers without a good in-game reason?

No finger crossing ok? Pinky swear it?

There are no random kills, there are just high level emergent content instances without instantly apparent RP.

I wonder if they will put on focus on combat logging, with this new improvement to the game?

Of course they won't. If they start only attacking other Power Play CMDRs they might actually get a fair fight ...

Is this one of those threads where we treat all PvP players like some kind of hive mind who all play the game the same way?

Gank groups will likely continue to gank, pirate groups will pirate, whiteknight groups will continue to protect - there will simply be a lot more purposeful PvP available for those who want it, which is a good thing.

If FDEV wanted us to fight fair, they wouldn't have made CQC so terrible and then dropped all support on it after the Xbox people joined

OP, I would look not so much at questions of individual behaviour, promises and so on and consider likely overall outcomes.

In June 2015, almost all the PvP in this game took place in the Powerplay HQ's.

In May 2018, almost all the PvP in this game takes place at the CG system.

It's reasonable to suppose that Frontier's proposal will achieve at least some movement back towards June 2015 and that alone will, I expect, improve the survival chances of soft targets at CG's ... which must currently be the greatest source of RPK-ing, by some margin.

They already said they aren't going to change instancing...so magic 8 ball says...future looks cloudy.

No, i'm asking for individuals who are in favour of this because they have in the past claimed they only gank and do random kills because they have no focus for their energies.

Its not aimed at those who, for example, have never claimed they gank because of the lack of a PvP focused gameplay element. Mainly at those who have campaigned for PP to become open only.

But will there? I mean, has anyone actually done the math on this? How many people today play PP in a mode other than Open? And how many of those would actually move to Open vs simply stop playing PP?

Agree on not treating all PvP players alike, though - you're right, not everyone is a griefer.

You dont need to fix instancing to fix combat logging, you just need to take a public hardline on it and hand out a few bans.

Simple fix, only combat loggers need to worry and people with bad connections shouldnt be in Open in the first place. That is what solo is for

I'm still somewhat staggered that CZs haven't become some kind of "PvP Matchmaking" mechanic ... with a nominated location, aligned with PP or CG locations each week.

So long as they don't play PP? Seems fair ...

If you can identify it maybe, but then they just start menu logging instead so what's the point. I support banning cheats, FDEV don't do it though which is why the games full of 5-1'ers.

As for bad connections the min spec is just broadband, no specified requirement beyond that. You can change min specs for future DLC but not retrospectively.

You've got your answer in post #2. Nuff said :)

Guess I'll just keep blocking the player that I don't want to be the content of :D

HAHA you make out that FDEV are going to hand out refunds or someone is going to take them to court.

Just not going to happen, standard whiny forum scaremongering from the people who drop several thousand pounds a day in the frontier store...

I wouldn't get overexcited about PP if I were you, Sandro proposed an open bonus before then changed his mind.

I really hope they address the block exploit issue.

Last thing we want is people signing up for PP pvp, then blocking anyone who fights for the other side.

Even if it doesn't happen, the posts coming from the anti-change community over the last few days have been GOLD!

And as i said to another member. It's not like I and many others could be playing the game ANY less than we currently are.

If it doesn't happen, we will have no reason to come back.

PUBREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FTW!

They can't ditch block, too many nutters taking it all far too seriously.

Imagine the meltdown if Sandro changes his mind again.

I didnt say to ditch block, but see a need to adjust it accordingly to reflect this change

While pledged, having it 'protect' you from harsh comms, but still allowing pledged people who are on your list into your instance is a happy middle ground that meets the spirit of the game and provides protection to the user.
