Question: for those experienced in taking out 'condas

Might be a stupid question (or two) but I can't figure it out. Anacondas are big and tough, particularly those which seem to have reinforced hulls or whatever so I thought I would try out the technique of shooting at the engines. I was in a CZ and there were other NPC's busy picking away at it as well. Anyway, I noticed that there are 2 drives listed so I just chose one and shot away until it reduced to zero. Then I went back into the UI to choose the other and saw that both were at 0% - so, first question - does shooting out one of them actually kill both?

Next - since the ana was still there, with both drives dead (although they were both still lit up - they should not be lit up I would have thought when they are dead) I thought I would go back to just shooting at the beast with no specific target. So here's the question - how can I cancel the targeted module and revert to just simply shooting at the ship?

It took forever to kill the darn thing - even with dead drives and it sitting at 6% me and a team of others shot at it for 5 minutes solidly before it finally gave up the ghost.

thanks.

Shoot the Power Plant instead, and all your problems will go away.

To your first question, I do not think so. I believe each drive is a separate module that needs to be taken out. Not 100% sure on this, as I typically never target a ship's main drives.

To your second, you can re-target the ship and you won't be targeting the subsystem anymore.

Ah - I see. That hadn't occurred to me - I would have thought that the PP wouldn't be available to be shot at from the outside.

Good advice - thanks very much - but the questions still stand.

the issue with anacondas is unfortunately, they are slow and dont have automatic turrets. it would be easier if there would be some sort of 360 degrees turrets on the condas so they could turn around and shoot those mesky vipers n such

Basically, you want to target the power plant on any ship above Cobra. Bind a key to "target PREVIOUS subsystem", and nearly all NPC ships are 7 clicks back. Annies are usually 9 clicks.

Get used to targeting the power plant on all ships especially when using gimbals. This will draw your fire to the center of mass and mean you're more likely to hit and cause damage. Even fixed weapons have a slight "snap" and will lock on to a subsystem target, great at long range.

Oh that's cunning! I've got a VA command set to the NEXT sub-system but voicing it a series of times takes so long I just gave up on the idea once I discovered how long the list of modules is for the bigger ships. But going backwards is a clever approach - dang, why didn't I think of that! Too old and stuck in my ways I guess - note to self: MUST practice thinking out of the box more!

I suppose I could set up a very brief VA command like "X" or some such and try voicing it 9 times in a row but I'm fairly sure that whacking a key 9 times is going to be much faster!

More great advice - thanks a heap!

when you kill one drive both are destroyed yes also dont just shoot the hull go for the power plant because yes otherwise itl take a while

To actually answer your second question (rather than tell you to target the power plant like everyone else), to deselect modules you just retarget the ship.

I don't think there is any native way to toggle between modules and ship though. I just target another and return to it.

Concentrate of the Power Plant as already mentioned and stay away from the pointy end of it. Always try and stay to it's rear and you're in for the win.

I've also found if you can (Ie your in a particularly agile ship) being slightly below gives better shots on the PP

Destroying the drives is fun too, looking at it spinning to a big rock nearby... I made some bounce on asteroids and it's hilarious, plus the damage done is significant :)

Yes I've targeted one drive, depleted to 0% and switched to the other and that too is at 0%. I've been able to repeat this time and time again. It may be a bug.

Or set up one VA command to press last subsytem 7 times: mine is called "target power plant"!
