Question on Fire Groups

I did a quick search before posting this and did not find any threads that answered my question so... When I open my panel that brings up fire groups it gives you multiple columns upon witch you can set your fire groups. So if I have 2 class 1 weapons and 2 class 2 weapons I can set them differently within the first column. After this is where i become confused. If I have a jump wake scanner and/or discovery scanner, how do I set up those hot keys? I don't understand how to get the second column worth of hotkeys functioning.

Just click the circle next to the device you want to assign to that colum, and it'll become a '1' and a second click makes it a '2' denoting trigger 1 and 2... and once you have at least one device in column 2 column 3 will appear, etc.

Also make sure you have both your primary and secondary fire buttons assigned in the controller setup, they correspond to both fire group 1 and 2 respectively.

Right I understand that much.. What I have trouble with is figuring out how to switch between my fire group columns I guess. If I have fire group "1" in column 1, how do I separately activate fire group "1" in column 2?

Ok. So, you deploy hardpoints with Fire Group 1 active - this is the very first time you've undocked since setting up the groups. You press trigger 1, and every device with a '1' in the first column fires. Then you press trigger 2, and every device with a '2' in the first column fires.

Then you press the key you have bound to 'next fire group' and then press trigger 1. Now every device you have a '1' next to in column '2' fires. Then you press trigger 2. Every device you have a '2' next to in column 2 fires.

Then you press 'next fire group' again. Repeat for column 3, until you run out of columns. Then, when you hit 'next fire group' from column n, the last column, it will swap back to fire group 1.

As ElleShaped explained, each column is a separate fire group. You use the "Next Fire Group" and "Previous Fire Group" buttons to switch between them. Within each fire group, there are primary and secondary devices (1 and 2). Press your main trigger and you'll activate the primary weapon, press the secondary trigger and you'll activate the secondary ones, the ones marked with 2.

You guys are right, I am silly for forgetting about the "next fire group" thing. I had this problem many months ago when I first played the game as well. Thank you for the perfect help!

SO I'm still a bit confused, if Fire Group 1 is Primary Fire and Fire Group 2 is Secondary Fire, how will I set up a third Fire Group, is their a Tertiary Fire button I'm not seeing?

I have not yet been able to get my Kill Warrant Scanner to do anything but I guess it's cause I didn't have it assigned to Secondary Fire button. I was pressing Secondary Fire Group button but then pulling regular trigger, so I think that is issue there, but now that I realize that is the issue, just confused about 3rd fire grouping, if I say deploy a Wake Scanner, to prevent these constant escapes at the last second...

What about third fire groups then?

You have primary and secondary for each fire group - button#1 = primary, button#2 = secondary
To step between fire groups you have previous/next.

example (i have N=next fire group, previous is not mapped)
I enter a combat situation, fire group #1 is selected: primary is KWS, secondary is chaff.
I stick with this group until I've managed to scan the target for available bounties, firing off chaff if needed.
Once the scan is complete I press N to select fire group #2: primary is lasers, secondary still chaff.
Use the lasers to tear down the target shields and chaff for defense.
As the shields drop and I get tail position, I press N to select group #3: primary lasers, secondary cannon (or missiles).
I now start to rip on the target hull, if I need defense temporarily, I'll hit N twice to get back to fg#2 so I can fire off chaff, then press N again to select cannon.
