LostWinds Question on LostWinds Music (Not asking for download ¬.¬)

Well i am in love with the music and the music style of this game. I was just wondering if the music was Orchestrated or MIDI? Or some crazy thing i've never heard of =P

Sorry, It may sound pointless but Music in Games means loads to me =]

I'm Just curious, I'll love the soundtrack with either results =P

P.S. This is the Thousandth Thread

I asked the man himself for you:

Thanks for your question. The music is constructed using a combination of midi instruments and recordings of real musicians playing a variety of ethnic instruments.

What makes the compositional style so very different from a lot of games music is that Quantisation was banned completely. Quantisation is a process by which midi notes that have been played into sequencing software (usually via a midi keyboard) are 'forced' to play back in perfect timing. This is actually very unnatural and quite unlike how human beings actually play. Furthermore, the LostWinds music deliberately speeds up and slows down. This gives the compositional style a sense of 'breathing' in much the same way that orchestral pieces work.

So by putting all the above together we were able to use recordings of real World Music intrumentalists, around which we then embroidered with midi instrumentation, made sure we did not use any quantisation to keep it 'human' ,and allowed the tempo of the music to ebb and flow.

I hope that answers your question.

Michael

Good day!

I also have a question concerning the music of LostWinds. Not really the music itself, but I was wondering who is the genius composer of that beautiful soundtrack? I really get goose bumps while listening to it!

Thanks in advance!

Its true that I composed and produced the music for the original LostWinds game. However, LostWinds Winter of the Melodias features a new musical score composed by Adam Hay (one of our in-house audio guys here).

The brief that I gave to Adam was to build on the atmosphere and style of the original LostWinds soundtrack, and to evolve the style in accordance with the story line as it develops in the new game.

The result is some beautiful work by Adam, who has done a great job. My original LostWinds theme tune remains in it's original form though, so thanks for your kind words and enjoy the new game!

Cheers,
Al Lindsay.

Well, one composing and one refining. I guess that has to be some kind of team-work. And the result is astounding. I mean you can be really proud of yourselves to call that soundtrack your work. I'm not fawning on you because I'm really serious when I'm talking about music. :p

That may sound strange repeating my compliments over and over again but you just leave me no choice~!
