Question regarding beam lasers on turret mounts

Hello all,
I've just bought 2 of those half million beam lasers on turret mounts for my 2 upper hardpoints on my Cobra.
However, when I tried to test fire them , nothing.
I Have enough power and have them assigned to a fire group.
Do you have to have something targeted for them to work?
Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

Yes, they're auto fire and need a target to work. Go to right hand systems menu, under functions, and scroll down till you find Turret weapon mode. I'd suggest making this "Target" to begin with.

Try the right panel on your ship (default key- 4), there is an option in the last tab, which changes the turret fire control. To control it yourself you have to put them in "forward fire" mode.

Im not using turrets, as they will get you in trouble, if set to "target hostiles". They just disco everywhere around, shoting allies and security shpis as much, as the hostile targets. Only way to avoid it is to set them to "forward fire", which makes the whole "turret" idea useless...
