Question regarding moving from Trading to Mining

Hello everyone,

Ive been playing this game for about 2 weeks now, and im currently using my Cobra ( 44 T cargo holds) for trading operations near LHS 3447 and doing about 100k credits/h, my question is will be making more money if i choose the mining path per hour in a worst case scenario or should i stick with trading for now ? Ty.

It depends on whether or not you can find yourself a good place to mine, if you can find pristine or major reserves of metal rings etc., you can generally do pretty well in a cobra. I do quite a bit of this, and try to stick with the high value stuff (platinum, paladium, gold, maybe silver). The upside is it's all pure profit as you don't have to invest in cargo. It does take patience, but can be very profitable. I just spent a hour or so and made around 190K, and didn't even fill my cargo hold.

Also, if you get to a station with this stuff, check the bulletin board just in case they are looking for some of what you have, e.g. I saw a mission asking for 5 paladium, paying 175k for it. Another bonus is sometimes you'll get jumped by a pirate, and you can get bounties while mining!

If you can afford it, get a refinery with 5 bins so you have a place for the "junk" you don't want, to avoid having to vent it each time you scoop it up. I have a class 1 mining laser, which is a bit slower than class 2, but that way I can have a gimbled beam and two class 2 muliti cannons for those pesky pirates who want my hard earned cargo.... :D
