Question regarding Powerplay.

Hi Guys,

I'm back again with a noob question! I have read the in game info about this but I'm not certain how it works in practical terms...

So I was pledged to Denton Patreus until today and I never took part in any power play aspects of the game. I am now considering taking an active part in powerplay and selecting a new power to join for some RPGish fun and I'm wondering how exactly it works in laymans terms?. Also, do you need to pledge to a Federation power to climb the federation ranks and unlock the Federal Corvette?

You'd think I would know about this stuff after 619 hours

Any explanation would be appreciated!

You do not need to pledge to a federation power in order to gain federation rank for the Corvette. That comes simply from doing BGS missions for federation minor factions. A quick search should find you some popular locations for doing it.

Personally I think joining a power community is almost like a requirement to enjoy PP since it's a coordinated group effort. It's the main activity that keeps me interested in the game for many years now and I hope you can find similar enjoyment

There are two ways to use powerplay:

Firstly, you can use it as a tool to get bonuses to make money faster and/or get the special PP weapons/modules. Most of the PP weapons/modules don't offer beginners any advantage. They're really for niche builds for people that know what they're doing. The packhound missiles are fun and good for sniping modules on NPCs, and the Prismatics are good for miners and haulers, that want to increase their cargo space by using a smaller shield.

Secondly, you can join in the role play of PP, where you help your power take over the galaxy. For that, you would be better joining a group or following the instructions from the leaders on Reddit.

Powerplay is completely independent of ranking for Cutter/Corvette. You only get those ranks by doing missions for Federation/Empire factions.
