Question regarding weapon of choice

Ok, so my ASP Explorer is currently fitted to take down shields quickly with dual beam lasers, literally only takes 5 seconds max and then kill shots with 4 small gimbaled multi-cannons. Makes very quick work of most ships. Takes them from shields to death in no longer than 10-15 seconds for anything smaller than a Python. The bad thing is that multi-cannons obviously run out of ammo. What is the best alternative to the 4 small multi-cannons? Preferably energy weapons, nothing that requires me to leave a combat zone and head to station for a reload.

I mean, you could go for 4 gimballed beams, but I feel like that would drain your capacitors in about half a second.

I guess I could go with 6 gimbaled beams. My generator is awesome, I have no power worries at all...

Right now, the dual medium beams I have... I can pull the trigger and let them run forever without draining my power. It's rather nice. But I am not actually sure I would have that same luxury adding 4 more small beams. You're right, it might drain them pretty good.

Long story short they would drain your capacitor pretty fast and raise your heat.
I was messing around with class 2 turreted beams on my Python and they really can fire all day long, in fact the capacitor recharges and the heat drops when they're the only weapons firing

It's not the power plant you should be worried about when you run an all-energy weapon loadout, it's your power distributor. Power plant will help with heat management, but I would consider that secondary to the very quick depletion of your WEP power.

Man I wish I wasn't at work so I could log in and tell ya what I have. All I know, I never run into power issues. I will log in when I get home and tell you guy's my power set up.

I did the opposite with my combat Asp Explorer. I used the MC's in my Med points and Beams in my small. Seemed to work out alright.

Sorry. Couldn't resist :)

Back on topic. Best energy weapon for hull damage is the humble pulse laser. No big energy drain or heat buildup either. Still need the beams to strip the shields through.

i feel that pulse lasers are the sort of the energy based equivalent to multis. they have similar damage output, similar distributor drain, and similar energy needs. I however just travel back and forth to reload my multiis. i feel that they are worth the hassle simply because of how they sound going off in my ear

As long as you've got the A rated power distributor for the top class that ship can hold, you're already better off.

If you're worried about capacitor drain with a 2 medium/4 small beam laser setup, swap down to burst lasers. At least that's what I would do.

I'm currently running a vulture and although the manoeuvrability is sweet and 2 large pulses kick bottom when bounty hunting but i like the idea of more weapons.

any of you guys swapped from vulture to asp and not thought about swapping back

Quite the opposite actually. I keep coming back to the vulture. The manuverablity and firepower is what I love about it.

Try fixed pulses on every hardpoint. I've got that on an FDL currently, works well against larger ships.
Most people say the extra damage done by fixed weapons is negated by not landing as many shots. It's something you have to try at least once. I much prefer fixed weapons on an agile ship.

I prefer 2 x M Multi and 4 x S Pulse. However, I would not recommend trying to find an optimal combat loadout for an Asp, and I don't run my set-up that way. I would not go looking for a fight on purpose with an Asp. They can defend themselves well enough, but they are not combat ships.
I have my Asp set-up for Multi-role. I have 2 x M Pulse, 2 x S Multi and 2 x S Mining Lance. With this she can run Robigo, Fehu, 17 Draconis, Pristine Reserves, Rare Commodities...you name it and she can do it. Buy a dedicated fighter for combat, you will be happier with the results I think. I personally chose the iCourier to be my hunter.

i swapped my Vulture for the Asl and I haven't looked back. Love the Asp much much better.

really? I always look for fights in my Asp. Never ever have a problem, until I run into a Conda or a Python

I run 4 small gimballed cannons and 2 medium gimballed beams. I find the cannons can take out modules more easily. Nothing better than crippling powerplants on ships twice your size haha.
