Question: Should I do missions for Independant factions.

I am Allied to the Empire, and currently ranked as a Knight. I am trying to get to Baron.

I have researched all the forum and studied Yokai's guide to ranking. I have spent about 25 hours this week just doing missions for Empire factions. I am allied with every station's Empire factions that I have visited. Still no ranking mission.

My question is: "Should I just do missions for Empire factions, or will my ranking chances improve if I also do missions for the independent factions?

sorry but your info is wrong as your need to do independent faction missions as your miss out on a huge amount of permits that unlock extra's within the game

please have alook at this like https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=122593 with alist of extra and unlocks you get with all factions , so missing out some independent factions will stop you from gaining extra's

As I am only interested in ranking at the moment, I have decided to just do missions for the Empire factions.

No problem , if you are only doing that , a extra tip is make sure you do a good bit of trade spread across the empire factions ( we worked out as you should have seen in the post about 20 mil ish in trade helps when getting out of bad rep so the opposite should be true in helping to build good rep) , also a good place to base yourself is my home imp world of CD-62 1454 as it high tech has 10+ ships inc the clipper and loads of equipment for the ships and also next to it is Beta-1 Tucanae has 90% of all a class stuff inc a7 power units if you need to ask anything else please feel free to pm me

Once you are allied with a minor faction, I don't think any further rep from that faction affects the likelihood of Progression missions.

To get to Baron, I had to go and find a different Empire system and get allied with another minor faction - I think it was 4 in total I was allied with in the end before I got the Baron progression mission.

Once you're Allied to the Empire faction within a system, move on onto another.Keep doing this and Naval Opportunities will appear.

Ooh, I only got an evil droopy moustache for reaching Baron. It was nice of them to take me into that room and teach me the evil laugh though.
