QUestion to Anaconda owners - How do you afford to keep it?

I've looked in to a decent upgraded connie with reinforced armours. The insurance price was 15million.. How do you afford going to war with such a ship? How do you earn your income? Are you trading with your Anaconda, or are you trading with a T9 besides of your Anaconda? I just need to know before I buy myself one of these.

Side question: Do you use FA off with this ship in combat, or is it too huge?

I use the anaconda for trading (6-7 million an hour) and I have a pimped out viper and python for fighting.

Very easy to keep it once you have a nice buffer (say 20 million balance after upgrades/cargo etc).

There is no use for an Anaconda right now so mine is safely tucked away in it's garage awaiting the day when ED provides suitable scenarios for it. Re upkeep, well, money is no object at this stage with a Type-9 so it's just the time needed to print said money that's the problem :D

As mentioned in a similar thread. Trade. It makes more than a Type 9 over the right type of trade route. I now have a more than adequate buffer for insurance, a pimped Asp, a pimped Clipper and a second Clipper I bought just for the Buckyball Run because I couldn't be bothered to strip the first one down and then go searching for upgrades again afterwards. I'll also be buying a Python soon for some heavy pew pew shenanigans. It more than pays for itself :)

Hmmmm.. How can Anaconda outrun T9 in trading? I'm making 40-50 million in an evening with my T9 now by doing smuggling.. I just wanna know if the Anaconda can keep up.. How much cargo space does it have?

Only 436T with 5A shields but it's much faster (especially boosting) and can cut down flight times by 25% or more depending on the trade route. If the stations are very close to the star and you spend more time flying the 8km to the station than in super cruise the faster boost speed really helps. The shields with 4 pips are also very strong and you can just plow your way into the docking bay and slam it hard onto the landing pad with no worries about damage. That's how I brake inside the docking bay, by just crashing and dragging my hull across the ground. I think I've smashed into the landing pad doing 100 before without any damage. It's a much faster way of landing, the T9 maybe can do this too but not at those kinds of speeds. T9 max speed is only 85 with 4 pips in sys right? It might also just crumple if you smash it into the pad at 85, the Anaconda takes no damage.

I've settled at 400 tons on mine. You can get them higher, but I'm happy with my loadout. The Anaconda makes more on a long jump / multi jump trade route because you can fit in more trade runs per hour than a Type 9. The Type 9 wins on shorter, single jump trade routes because of the larger cargo.
.
For example, my current trade route is ~17.5LY each direction. Because of the way the local systems are set out, this was a 4 system jump trade route even with a Class A FSD in my Type 9. It's one jump in the 'Conda. The net result is an increase of about 2.5mil profits per hour in the 'Conda than that earned in the Type 9.
.
It's obviously very dependent on the routes and type of trading you are doing.
.
How the hell are you making 40-50 mil in an evening? I think I've made about 20mil max in an evening doing normal trading (admittedly, my trade route isn't the best).

You can more or less subtract 1 minute per station when using an Anaconda over a T9, so a 12min roundtrip becomes 10 and so on. If you're running a long-range route you also save time due to the massive range increase. The difference in cargo is only about 10% so you gain more in trips/hour than you lose in cargo space.

Wait, what? Can you please explain how to make such profits by smuggling, i.e., what do you smuggle that you can obtain in such quantities and that brings a high profit? I've been under the impression that black market pays a lot less than the legal market.

It'll be taking stuff to seeking luxuries/weapons as there isn't a way to make any money smuggling you lose half the value on anything you have to trade on the black market :p

I expect the luxuries and weapons are supposed to be illegal in the systems they are in, but the luxuries one isn't usually

I think only stolen goods lose half their value. The illegal goods you buy yourself are still full value, but you have no way of knowing whether the black market even has demand for them except through trial and error.

Back in Beta I was smuggling tobacco to a station that banned them and they were paying 1k over what they cost me. It would have been almost a 50% loss if they only paid half value.

If you buy illegal goods, then sell them on the normal commodities market they aren't illegal and its not smuggling lol.. I've not seen a single commodity yet that sells for a real value on the black market, I could be wrong though I'll keep my eye out for tobacco smuggling as i'd like to do something other than run weapons! Ty for tip +rep

You can't sell them on the normal commodities market if they are banned. Only the black market will buy them, but since you paid for them they aren't stolen so they don't lose half value. I was buying tobacco for 4500cr per unit, and the black market at the place that banned them was paying around 5600cr.

For the extra effort it takes to smuggle stuff in, there should be some kind of bonus on the sell price but it appears to just be normal supply and demand prices. Lol, be sure you really want to be a smuggler because if you get caught the fines are amusingly humongonormous. 200 units of contraband tobacco will get you a 1.5 million credit fine and instantly turn them from neutral to hostile. If you get that in the Federation, Empire or Alliance they'll be after your head in all those systems and you will have to grind lots of missions to get back to unfriendly rep. It's silly, you have to sneak into the station to pick up missions to do for them to get back to unfriendly so they don't kill you on sight.

Another idea is always keep 2 or 4 ships in storage. So while I have a Cobra. I would also have a type 6, 9 and Anaconda in storage.

Ohhhh I understand now! I wish I'd know that earlier lol I feel like a right moron now, thanks for clarification

Hi.. I'm smuggling PE to lux pirates.. I have no shields and I can carry 532 PE.. The range is 30 mega meters and the station needs to sell PE relatively cheap
