Question VR two vidio cards

Morning All,
In the never ending search for a better setup to view Elite dangeriouse I have over time updated my setup.
I know run a Oculus Rift off a GTX 1070 card, which is also set to a 4K monitor. A gaming board by Gigabyte 'GA -Z170X SOC FORCE is used , and 32 gb of DDR4 ram
Elite Dangerous is downloaded to my PC and is not STEAM.

My question is;
how do I get out of Oculus Rift when I want to play on the monitor alone?

I also fly using X-plane 11 beta, on two 4k monitors, the second monitor is run hooked into a GTX 720 vid card.
My question is;
Do I have to run both card together, is that what SLI is?

All advise great fully received as i want this setup to best potential

sli yes it is multiple cards running together 2x 3x or 4x gpus.

if its amd don't bother with the link! I have had a thought, it may still be possible to do the setup like I have, you have to have on board gchip and activated. if your board has ,were I have intel you would have ( insert )gchip for your board then give it ago..
I'm my opinion EDH runs smoother, with a dedicated graphics.

Use ED Profiler to select monitor or VR before starting Elite.

For SLI both cards have to be at a minimum the same chip, but really should be identical models.

I realize this isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but it might help, if you decide to run ED through Oculus Home you can right click the game icon and choose to boot it in VR or on the monitor, I discovered that by accident the other day.
But actually you're best of with Dr Kaii's ED profiler because it gives you much more control over the graphics settings for each instance of the game.

now that I have your answer I realize that a GTX 720 and a GTX 1070 can't be run in SLI as they have to be matching cards. Oh well will have to save up for another GTX 1070. But video cards are so expensive here in Australia.

thank you your answers were a godsend, once I downloaded Dr Kaii's Vidio profiler and worked thru it , I found the 3D and 2D option which allowed me to now play either in VR or in big screen. I was truly tearing what little hair I have out. I must go and read more of his articles.
