Questions about 2nd account.

My original installation was through Steam, I've since bought two alt accounts from Frontier and got all three running simultaneously on the same PC without having to download anything. I just made two copies of the entire folder where the launcher resides (about 40gb). I can how have a full crew visible on my Beluga's bridge.

Good to know. I'll try doing the same, thank you.

Oh, and I was relieved to find that the 2nd account does use all the keybinds I set for my original account.
The game has reset a bunch of other options to the default settings though - stuff like the pre-flight checks and music volumes etc.

And filters on the galmap are also shared between the 2 accounts :)

i stupidly bought two more accounts on the original account, can they be transferred to different email accounts or should i open a ticket?

Ticket and they will do the business (applying them to new accounts I mean) for you.

All I did was go straight to the standard RES site in Asellus Prime (I took the Horizon's start) and follow the police around until I made about 1.2 million in bounties (took about an hour). After that, I was able to upgrade the FSD on the sidewinder to A class AND put DSS in one of the optional slots. After that, I mapped the Earthlikes in 2 or 3 nearby systems and accumulated (but not able to cash in yet) 2.9 million in exploration data. Then I set course straight for Diaguandri to buy a Viper Mk III for discounted prices. I explored every system on the way there and mapped several earth-like, water worlds, and terraform candidates. By the time I reached Diaguandri, I had enough to buy a fully A rated Cobra MK II, a fully A-rated Viper Mk III, and still have 3-6 million left over. I also shot up in exploration ranks to trailblazer.

At this point, I'd already met the requirements for Felicity Farseer and Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn. So I immediately took my A-rated Cobra (purchased at a nearby system for 15% discounted, and then outfitted in Diaguandri) to a location for Barnacles listed in the Codex. The trip there and then the stop of at Maia to sell the excess Meta Alloys I didn't need (had five, only need one) generated even more exploration money (now a Pathfinder). Then the trip back to Felicity generated even more exploration money, which I cashed in with her (after giving her the Meta Alloy) and shot her up to Rank 3 immediately.

Since then, I've taken off for Dav's hope to farm for mats. By the time I get back, I'll have even more cash. I'm not even going to use my Viper - I'll just let it sit there and look pretty - and will equip a DBS for my combat needs and use the Cobra for everything else. I'll just keep wandering around, making money, while gathering engineering mats/data, until I have everything I need to buy a Chieftain and engineer it. Oh... and I need to go out to the Guardian sites in my Cobra, so I can get Guardian FSD boosters and Shield Reinforcements.

Honestly, with all my traveling around for the engineers, I'm raking in so much money I have no need to transfer it from another account! I could. But where is the fun in that?

My 5th account.. not doing all the crap again :)

FD really need to make this easier. Why can't we just have multiple commanders in game?. We could just pay to add more commanders.

So much this.

I've held off buying more accounts because firstly all the faffing about (although sounds like it's a lot less these days), and secondly not being able to share purchased cosmetics. While for sure they'd be mad to allow sharing cosmetics between different accounts (open to abuse), selling additional "Cmdr Slots" in a single account would circumvent that as long as they restrict that to only allowing a single Cmdr to fly at a time per account (personally I'd be ok with that).

People who absolutely must fly with multiple Cmdrs simultaneously can still buy actual multiple accounts as per at present.

But if they added a mechanism to buy more Cmdr Slots, I'd definitely buy one or two.

I just duplicated my copy of ED and then had two separate links (titled with my Cmdr name) on my start menu; since I have EDMC as well, I duplicated that too; then I just launch the Cmdr I want to play. No mess, no fuss.

Since it looks as though their revenue model appears to be based on selling these cosmetic "micro-transactions" I doubt that allowing multiple slots to share purchases would gain much traction in the boardroom. No matter what price the second slot was pitched-at it would definitely curtail that income stream.

So people actually buy the same cosmetics multiple times?

I mean I've broken my own holy rule of never buying cosmetics for a game myself but that's mainly been because of the incredible value I've gotten out of the game so far and that the last 2 years or so have been completely free ever since Horizons. So I felt I should support the developer a bit. While I'd certainly buy more of them for the same reasons, I'm not sure I could convince myself to ever buy the same cosmetics multiple times. And it's certainly one contributing reason why I won't buy a second account.

Once they ramp up paid DLC again, multiple accounts would bring in more than cosmetics I think. But yeah, it depends on what the numbers on the boardroom charts say. Still, it's sad that at the end of the day, it always comes down to £££.

Yes. *guilty face*

Why guilty face? Your money, your rules :)

I guess I'm just a little bit amazed that people would do that..

The other thing is that my hypothetical second account wouldn't have access to things like the CobraMkIV.. although -perhaps- FDev could be convinced to allow that via a support call...

When I first had more than one account I tried to stick to a policy of no duplicates but that long ago went out the window.

Years ago frontier may have acknowledged that people wanted a second commander slot, but memory says they disnissed it to not being a priority with features to develop, which was valid at the time.

A few years later with multiple platform releases and millions of copies sold it feels anti consumer when thinking about it. Still it will never really be frontiers fault as it’s all optional.

......

Certain things, yes. I spend time in each of my commanders and so I spend money on each of them. I think all have a Predator Python repaint, all have one namplate and number plate and each has different engine and weapon colours.

I keep an eye out for cosmetic items in "sales" but in actuality I am quite happy to contribute to the revenue stream for a game that I enjoy so much.

Even considering all the items I have bought for multiple accounts and the accounts purchases (all in sale offers apart from the first) in four years I still have not spent half as much as I have spent on stuff for Flight Simulator (and I include the £120 I paid for a LEP).

E D is a really REALLY cheap hobby.

Keep us informed :) I've just started a Cobra-only CMDR and wouldn't mind them having access to the Mk4 from my main (it doesn't get used there). Also I could get some of the Midnight paint moved over to the alt - though with the F25 hopefully out soon I'm not so sure about that.

Edit: Seems the Sale is over, so if your second acct is still hypothetical I guess it's staying that way for a while ;)

Sounds like an interesting multiple account challenge, some of the most fun in elite. What would it make your old account the cobra only and your new account your daily?

Engineering progression post raining materials 3.3 is not that bad.. ive found wind for my ps4 account lately and its been quite fun. Its like a clean slate too.. im using ships i never used anywhere else (keelback + type 10 + new beluga).

Frontier support seem to sometimes do random insanely accommodating things, but swapping accounts sounds like that sounds a bit out of doable. I have tried asking for the chance to get a limited cosmetic available for purchase even on a second account and they said no. Still, don't know until you try. I'm not sure if the wording you use to write the request or your prior spending history makes a difference...
