Questions about combat ranking.

1. Do player kills whether wanted or innocent count towards a rank.

2. Do NPC kills whether wanted or innocent count towards a rank.

3. Is there correlation between killing elite targets ranking more efficiently compared to harmless targets.

Thank you internet.

Only wanteds count, player or NPC. Combat bonds and bounty payouts count. The lower your rank compared to your target's, the more that kill will count towards your rank.

I do not believe bounty payouts count at all.

if you look at the first guy to exploit his way to combat elite he just got lots of kills quickly from utilizing the imperial majestic class capitol ship.

I've ranked up both when in the field and when turning in combat bonds. :) If you have a lot of bonds (like a million Cr) there's a bug that prevents you from turning them in.

Me? I stayed for a loooong time in Kappa Fornacis capital ship zones. About 4k kills? Stopped when I just ranked up to Deadly. Turned in 3m in bonds before they bugged out. Had something like 10+ million not being able to be turned in, but lost 'em when station landing bug blew up my trade ship.

So you only technically made 3 million but still achieved a rank of second to elite. So.

That's why I believe it has nothing to do with profit.

It has a minor component, otherwise I wouldn't have ranked up when turning in half mil units. Like for trading, from what players have reported, your profit per ton counts as well, rather than just raw profit. Nobody really knows the exact formula.

Good point. I guess it would be nice if anyone else achieved their higher rank with more kills but less profit and we'll be able to speculate whether making a profit is more efficient.

Really don't think the difference in combat status counts in the slightest, its just kills plain and simple.

How do I know? Because my numbers for rank-ups correspond to the guy who farmed terrible imperial fighters leeching off cap ship, whereas I have exclusively bounty-hunted along with the whole array of different ranks that come with it. Plus long sessions of killing federal security, which never spawn below a set rank for where I was farming them anyway.

If you run a search you can find the figures he posted for when he got each rank and match them up yourself.

I found it, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ub67Odt52kUVk9F7RoI5N2PNX5NtL9yddil6bJ7qNA8/edit#gid=0

I'm master currently at almost exactly 2k, so i'm expecting my next number to tick over the next time I go hunting to dangerous.

Sigh.. I'd rather be master than dangerous :/

Interesting, because I'm on Novice at the moment but with 250 kills, 1.5 million in bounties but still on novice, So it has to factor in the combat rank of your opponents, it looks like it was even implied by sandro here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=68998&p=1146598#post1146598
