I was just wondering, is there any information available on what they might actually look like? The only depiction I've seen so far is the body model in the ship itself (that looks like he's wearing some kind of neopreme flight suit). Yet most popular sci-fi fandoms don't have any special outfits for non-military space ship pilots.
My question is: according to what we know about Elite lore, do pilots actually need to wear these special flight suits, and do they need helmets?
There is, presumably, a life support system within the ship, so I would think that they don't need breathing aparatus (except maybe if they're in the military), or is the inside of a ship actually a vacuum, and everybody needs breathing aparatus to travel on one? I kind of figure the inside of a ship to be like the Millenium Falcon, Serenity, or the Starship Enterprise, in that you don't need any special clothing or anything (in fact, in the case of the latter, wearing certain clothing is actually very dangerous...I'll leave you to figure out what that is!
).
Which also brings me to my next question: how does ejecting work? Do you literally launch yourself out of the cockpit, like in modern jets, and then just float around in space until your suit runs out of air, or is it more of an escape pod type thing? Or maybe they keep space suits handy for such eventualities?
Also, what happens if life support does fail? Is it a similar situation to a WW1 plane catching fire (i.e. you bring a pistol and hope you never have to use it but it's still better than burning to death)? Or do you jump into an escape pod (which would have its own life support system otherwise it'd be worthless)?
