I started off in Open play this morning, and all was smooth as butter (relatively) until I arrived at the CG. Once again I encountered the loooooonnnngggg transitions to and from supercruise, as well as some serious stutter. What (who) I also encountered was Long John Silver, who is basically on the opposite side of planet Earth (IRL). In fact, the station had me dock right besides him! That man flies like a bat out of hell - dude owns the mail slot, LOL.
My point is, I was instanced with someone on the other side of the globe, and I have to think that introduces some serious latency. I'm guessing that ED places a priority on our PSN friends, regardless of latency. Is this correct? I'm told that this latency is what causes all the stuttering and delays. Is this also correct? Thing is, LJS's ship animated very smoothly. It was my own framerate that dropped like a rock at times, regardless of LJS was in my view or not. It's almost as if FDev put the networking code in the main thread (CE speak) instead of a parallel lower-priority thread. You got 8 cores FDev, use them
I don't want to remove all my across-the-pond friends from PSN, because 99% of the time playing this game, we'll be in different parts of the galaxy, and I love seeing your icons on my map. What I'll do for now is play Solo at these CGs, which is kinda a shame.
FDev, I recommend a setting that allows us to prioritize low-latency over PSN friends when instancing together. Give me a checkbox somewhere I can toggle. Or did I miss something somewhere?
