Questions about starting at launch.

Just wondering, where the likely starting position will be.

Is it completely random within explored space or are there a limited number of starter systems? Is it just luck if you get somewhere convenient? Will there be any choice to it?

Thanks :)

My understanding is that there will be one of several places you may start off.

Tip: If this is the case, I recommend doing some quick star system research to ensure your starting position has a good trade run close by (e.g. a high tech/industrial and an agricultural/developing system close to each other). If not, quit and restart to helpfully get a better starting point.

Misread the title as "Questions about starting at lunch.".
I have experienced the trouble. One hand on the stick, one hand on the food plate or mug of coffee, task switching with controlling thrust.

I've asked the same question several times myself, after about six or so posts the thread goes south with no further replies.

The bottom line is that there is no official word on starting positions other than the kickstarter awards, to be honest this is a (minor) deal breaker for me as I really don't want to start in Federal space, and having tried - it's a real pain in the butt to get to Empire space from your staring position at the moment.

Thanks for the replies so far. I won't quote as it will get messy.

If there are a limited number of starter systems, I guess FD won't want to make them known so people don't have the ability to congregate there in advance. Though if they did choose the "starter systems" they could at least make sure its a relatively secure system with a few OK starter jump/trade options, not easy profit ones but at least not a baptism of fire for new players. If its completely random then it solves the problem of people camping out at starter systems but then there is no guarantee of not starting somewhere difficult.
If quitting and restarting to get a different starting point is possible, people will probably go through all of the possible starting positions until they find the one that suits them best.

Chazzie, with a week to launch it would be nice to know. Help keep the thread up and a Dev might answer.

I believe there will be some logic to the starting locations. They won't put you in an anarchy-filled system, billions of light-years away from trade routes.
