Horizons Questions about targeting and places known for USS

HI! I tried a bit of looking around for USS and found a whole lot of ships but and also a Wake ( a ceremony or some sort )..but not what I looking for and also I am not sure what I am doing either :)

1: I used B for targeting whats in front of me but how about ALL cycling through all targets? Its marked in the menu that I can use a certain button on my joystick but when I do it just cycles through ships ( I did a test ) so is there a way to cycle through all targets that sensor picked up in system/range ?

PS: I checked my options menu under controls and its marked "Cycle next target" and this actually cycles through ships only.. and not ALL. I tried it and it misses objects like "Wake"

2: Do I need to be out of Frameshift to be able to pick USS on my scanner?

3: Where is a good place ( OR Type of place ) to see USS and perhaps pick up a "Grid Capacitor" and a "Heat dispersion plate"

4: I saw something in a system called "Wake" that was White in color, what is this? is this use full? should I have pick it up?

5: Also is there something to facilitate the Cargo Scoop? I am having a hard time to use this.. its hard to keep in the radar scoop box and I have already destroyed a few object and missed many others..

Hi CMDR,

1. look in your options menu, I assume your on an XBOX. There should hopefully be binds for target (what´s in front of you) .. next/last target and next/last hostile target. In PC options, there are binds for all of these, just look closely.
2. No, USS can only be seen in supercruise (SC). It´s what you called frameshift.
3. they spawn randomly in inhabited space whilst supercruising
4. the wakes are left behind for a while when a ship hyperjumps (leaves the system). You can´t pick it up. With a wake scanner you can scan it and follow the ship that left. Else you can just target and scan it for data (you may need to "collect" these for the engineers and missions)
5. fly slowly, just practice a bit. Later you might want to outfit "collector limpet controller" and drones.

one step after another :)
and ... download and read the manual ! It helps a lot for the basics ! And later ... take a look at the forum stickies or ask google and youtube.

I find that if you target a canister or material and close in to within about 200-300m and then throttle back to between 10 and 15 speed, it makes scooping objects easypeasy. If you find it too hard to keep the target centered in the scoop box you are going too fast.

But I did and its only targets selects the ships and not all targets ( I checked this and did a test ) and I looked to see my controller config right after to make sure that I did not get the buttons mixed up.. I even tried all buttons just to see.. and none of the buttons actually cycled through all targets.

Ps: thanks btw.. I will try again :)

ok thanks I will try that..

There used to be a training mission I thought on that.. or I think its now converted to target practice mission..

Hi Veger.

1. You're correct. The 'cycle' options only cycle through ship targets. For Wakes and USS' you need to either point at them and press B, or select them in the left-hand panel. Wakes are in Contacts and USS' in Navigation. (I can't tell you why, only how it is :) )

2. USS are only visible while in Frameshift (Supercruise). They are positions where your sensors are detecting signals from things happening in normal space. Once you target them and point towards them your sensors will pick up more info and tell you roughly what type of thing it is, and its threat level. Degraded Signal Sources are good for wreckage with Materials and Cargo Canisters floating about.

3. You will find USS' everywhere. Just fly about and watch for the notification in the top-right of the screen.

4. Wakes are created when a ship either jumps to another system, a High Wake, or drops down to normal space, a Low Wake. For High Wakes you need a Wake Scanner to see where they went. Low Wakes can be targeted and dropped into, the same as dropping at a station.

5. Slow to 10-15 for easier scooping, once within 100m or so. Or equip a Collector Limpet Controller and re-stock with some Limpets for it.

---4--- what do you mean Wakes can be targeted and dropped into? there are objects right? do you mean it can be scooped?

They are not really objects, more like markers.
You can drop into them when you encounter them in SC. It's basically a marker that there was a ship that left SC and dropped into normal space, so you can follow that ship (low wake). If that ship didn't drop into normal space but jumped to another system you'll see a high wake and need a wake scanner to follow him.

PS you can encounter wakes in normal space were the same rules apply.
