Questions about weak signal sources

I have not had anything to do with them, so far, in game. I was just sitting in a system scanning nearby bodies when I noticed something moving. I target it and see that it is a weak signal source. Not only was it moving, but it changed course and came towards me. It went underneath me and continued on its way.

Is this common for this sort of thing? What do you do with them when you find them?

They are quite common in inhabited systems, rare outside the bubble. Mostly like USS, but tend to be wrecks and floating cargo. Use "docking procedure" to enter, just like USS - but be careful of traps if you decide to scoop up any cargo (especially expensive stuff)

This was in a system about 1.2kLY outside of the populated area. I didn't bother to go after it though.

Probably a wise choice

I have been looking at a few myself, to see if there were any UAs, but it's all been traps (gold cannisters floating in space) so far.

At about 900ly out of the bubble, I hit a weak signal source and decided to check it out. Found a destroyed anaconda with some black boxes floating about. They aren't even worth that much on the black market so meh. Would have been interesting if the black boxes was something we could have gleaned data from.

But if knew what was inside, it would no longer be a black box

Pedanticism aside, I do hope this is the sort of stuff that gets fleshed out more later on, right now the feel like a catchall placeholder for missions.

I found another weak signal source in another system and investigated. It was a destroyed ship, don't know what kind as all I saw were pieces parts, and the source was a couple of computer parts. I picked them up and didn't find out they were illicit until i got back to sell my exploration data. I actually started to get scanned just as I was going into the slot! Got in before the buzzer though! lol

I haven't seen anything in months but if I were to see a signal I would have my finger over F10 ready for that Thargiod pic and then run in hope of not letting the aliens see the brown in my shorts
