Questions before backing

I have followed E:D for a long time and now i, finally, have the 120€ to back this game!
But first a few important questions need to be answered and neither E:D on Twitter nor on Facebook answered my messages :(

1.Is there any new content update announced for the coming weeks?

2.Is the game perfectly playable at a resolution of 720p? My gaming pc is hooked up to a projector(120" screen) which is only capable of displaying 1280x720p. I'm a bit worried because very UI intense games like EVE Online are a pain in the ass to play, font-size wise and the amount of excel tables that are opened at once.

Thank you :)

Whilst I cannot garuntee this information is correct I can at least try and give some guidance.
There more then likely is more content for the coming weeks, more then likely bug and crash fixes first.
You "should" be fine with that, I run at 1080p just fine, but then I don't use a 120" projector, so I can't truly say.
Sorry if any of this information is incorrect, someone else may be able to provide more info.

Firstly, welcome to the forums

1. They will announce what updates will be in the next build just before they release that build, so at the moment as I write this, we don't know.

2. That should be fine as ED will display at any resolution. I can make custom resolutions through nVida control panel, and ED will display at those resolutions, so your resolution should be fine (disclaimer: I could be wrong)

1. Of course there will be updates in the coming weeks. As far as I know at least one major release update is planed for Premium Beta before Standard Beta - PB2.

2. I have played the game in windowed mode 1280x720 - it is not as convenient as 1920x1080 but still playable. Of course this is my subjective opinion. And I do not know how it will look being projected.

At the moment I don't think that your resolution will work very well due to the bias for 16:9 aspect ratios. Also, you may have some problems reading some of the text.

It has been stated that later there will be more support for other resolutions and aspect ratios but it's not currently the focus of development, which is more on the networking and interactive side of the game.

Welcome to the forums!

1) to the moment, the game is probably less than 10% feature-complete, so there will be plenty of new stuff to come! Fair warning, it's also unbalanced and sometimes crashing cang cost you significant progress

2) yep, I had it running at 720p on my 40" TV before realizing that I was using my integrated graphics not GPU

here is a video at 720p with low settings, someone asked for it

Thanks for all those great and very fast replies!
I think question #1 is answered perfectly.

For question #2 the term 'perfectly playable' was only meant for resolution scaling. 1280-720p is 16:9 ratio....
How are the integrated AA options in E:D? Which are available? Because aliasing is the only terrible thing in 720p.

720p is 16:9 isn't it?

Some people think there'll be a content update in time for E3 (couple of weeks), don't quote me on that though.

It is, but at a pretty low resolution, which may cause problems with some of the display elements currently. I know people with Oculus Rift Development 1 units have problems because of the lower resolution.

Anyway, you may find it good enough. :)

I just thought you might like to have an honest opinion before you paid your money. I wouldn't like you to be disappointed. I'm sure things will be changing as development progresses anyway.

As for content update before E3, I'm not so sure about that. The current version is really targeted at stressing and testing the networking and economic systems with a large number of players. It's still really a test harness using modules from the actual game and not the real game itself, but there is a nascent game in there already, if rudimentary and unbalanced.

1. Have a look at the thread containing the list of alpha backers that also stream the game on Twitch and watch twitch closely because the alpha backers will be getting any new content a whole 2 weeks before the rest of us humble beta backers so you'll see it there first.

2. Should be no problem displaying at 720p.
