Questions from a new player

So I finally got into this game yesterday, some of the stuff I really liked an other aspects seem to need work from my first impressions (although obviously the game is still a work in progress). Anyway I'll just fire away an if anyone can answer please do.

1) I haven't played with a friend yet I'm considering forcing him to buy beta access. I'm wondering what the multiplayer experience is like, am I able to zoom around on the same ship (I assume not) or can we just fly around together on different ships. Also are you able to trade your friends items & credits.

2) There seems like a massive void between the 200k ship (100 cargo type 6 thing) and the next ships which cost in access of 3 million credits. Is this purposeful? Or are the ships that slot between simply not finished.

3) I'm trying to save up for one of the 3 million + credit ships, The problem I have is I'm only able to make around 60-70k every 20 minutes with my current trade run, is that normal or should I go elsewhere to find better profits?

4) I'v made about 400k credits without firing a single shot, in fact I literally couldn't defend myself if I tried, I haven't learnt combat at all. Yet every single engagement I escape easily. It seems like the game is a little easy, Isn't ED supposed to be hardcore?

5) I understand that you can play online without the multiplayer settings & that still affects the overall universe. Doesn't that potentially allow someone to gear up in the single player online mode then enter the MMO part with little to no risk?

6) It seems that within one day I'm able to upgrade from Starter > Eagle > Hauler > Cobra > Type 6. Doesn't that limit the longevity of the game someone if climb most of the ship upgrade ladder can be done in a single day.

That's it really, that is all I had on my mind. I do really like the game a lot, but it seems like it's going to be very quick for me to hit end game then have nowhere to go upon release. I mean I literally just learn the game yesterday (360 controls are excellent, miles better than SC) and I'm already looking towards purchasing an end game ship.

400k a day in a sidy naaaaaaaaaa sorry

I don't think you understand... I moved from sidy to hauler to Cobra to type 6, now I make about 60-70 every 20 minutes. Nice community here, I make my first post asking questions & some ass hat calls me a troll.

Well to be fair it doesn't help that you both complain you aren't making enough money, and that it was too easy to make so much money you could directly fly the second largest ship.

I am currently making more like 10k an hour :p. And thats in my sidewinder where i don't have to worry about losses. But tbh it is pretty clear stuff is going to be rebalanced.

No at least for the moment it's one player, one ship, one bank account. There will be player to player trading which may facilitate player to plaer credit transfers. If so you will both need to be online and in the same station (I think). The matching is a bit ropey at the moment, I have yet to meet a friend in game despite being in the same system.

2) There seems like a massive void between the 200k ship (100 cargo type 6 thing) and the next ships which cost in access of 3 million credits. Is this purposeful? Or are the ships that slot between simply not finished.

Seeing as the ship prices have shifted since Premium Beta, and there was a mssive gap from sidewinder to Cobra before I am sure this will be filled (Adder?)

Sounds normal. Try and get a few courier missions to boost it.

4) I'v made about 400k credits without firing a single shot, in fact I literally couldn't defend myself if I tried, I haven't learnt combat at all. Yet every single engagement I escape easily. It seems like the game is a little easy, Isn't ED supposed to be hardcore?

Depends on your definition of 'hardcore'. It's not just PvP, and I think the interdictions will be beefed up to be player initiated and harder to flee from.

Numerous threads on this. My view is I'd rather someone at least could try mulitplayer without an irrevocable startpoint than never venture in there. Also as there is no 'win' I don't really get what the fuss would be about.

6) It seems that within one day I'm able to upgrade from Starter > Eagle > Hauler > Cobra > Type 6. Doesn't that limit the longevity of the game someone if climb most of the ship upgrade ladder can be done in a single day.

Only if your goal is to climb through the ship roster. I also refer you to question 2) above.

Enjoy.

Well I'm unaware if I'm making it easily, since I literally had nothing else to go by. Hence my reasoning of coming here and asking some questions. I'm not complaining about things being to expensive either, I was asking why there are no ships from 200k to 3.5 million, seems a bit of a big gap.

I could get the 3.5 million ship in a 2/3 days if I wanted, but still I'd like to know if ships are planned for in between.

As with everything it will be rebalanced. Maybe right now the Devs want us to quickly advance through ships, that way we can try out the new ones (Viper is awesome, I love being a Space FedEx), also they just increased the systems from 8 to 50 and several new commodities came in as well.

Yes.
It's way, way, waaaaay too easy to earn money right now.
I expect this to be a beta thing so that we can easier test different ships and more.
IMO one should have to work hard for a long time to be able to get a new ship.

Thanks guys, nice to get some decent replies coming in. I'm sorry a lot of the stuff I asked had already been answered numerous times. I'm simply trying to learn different aspects of the game & what is & isn't possible quickly.

That's what I'd like, I want to get used to ship & really learn them before jumping to the next one. I meant I literally owned the Cobra (my favorite ship so far) for an hour before I had to swap it out for the type 6 since it's 2.6x more efficient at trading.

Now I'm going to be stuck with the type 6 for a while I guess, which is a shame since I don't really like the ship. Much prefer the Cobra but it just isn't an effective trading ship.

Exactly, players can willy-nilly switch back and forth between the single and multi player universe, taking their assets with them and even spawning at the same location where the were in the other mode. Thus, there is no integrity or proper dependency between cause and action in the multiplayer of ED.

From a technical POV, this is due to the fact that there is no central server to host a globally consistent multi-player universe ... just P2P instancing between clients.

That's a shame I was really looking forward to experiencing the game with a friend, I'm guessing for all intensive purposes ED is pretty much a single player experience for the time being.

Will you be able to fly about with friends soon & will they be able to come on your ships eventually?

See here - http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6300 about groups.

You will be able to form alliances with buddies and join hyperdrives so you all stick together.

I can't find a reference for the walking about bit, but IIRC 'yes' is the answer to being on your ship. Eventually, read some months after main game release.
