Ship Builds & Load Outs Questions on Equipment Size/Grade and Credits

Been playing around with an explorer build on an Asp Explorer. My question is why is the 5A Fuel Scoop 2,000,000 CR more than the 6B when the 6B scoops up in 0:44 seconds while the the 5A does it in 0:52 and there is no other changes that I can see other than a .01 power increase on the 6B.

Same question on 5D Thrusters vs. 4A ones and 4D Power Distributor vs. 3A one. Why does it seem that the "A's" are more expensive yet seem to be "worth" less as far as performance. So "size" is generally better than "grade" even regardless of price? Just confused as in most games the pricier something is the better it usually is.

If you haven't noticed yet...I'm new to the game :)

Thank you all for the help and explanations and help.

It's a little more complicated than that.
Generally speaking A-rated modules are far more expensive than B-rated equivalent. You pay the premium for the best thing available.
In your case 6B fuel scoop would be better than 5A but only if you have class 6 compartment available.
Also things matter depending on the component.
A-rated power plants run the cooler which is very important. I think 3A Power Distributor is slightly better than 4D and also lighter than 4C.
These are nuances that may matter if you go for a very specific build. For example in my builds I usually put A-rated power plant one class lower than maximum to have a cool running ship and save credits.
But yes, higher class is generally better than higher grade. But A-rated is the best so if you want the best you have no choice but to pay for A-rated component.

Thrusters and FSD need to be in the correct class for the ship so an Asp should have a class 5, a class 4 will work but it'll impact speed and agility, same with FSD's a lower class will work but the reduction in jump range can be significant.

As deyot says grade A is the best combination of performance, low mass and cool running available but at a price!
