Questions on physics and coordinates in ED

I'm trying to use a lagrange point calculator to drop into a planets lagrange points; I have yet to try it but it's going to be a test I'll do very soon.

My question is, does anybody know if ED tracks your coordinates in relation to the system and the planetary body coordinates in real time as they do for system coordinates with relation to other systems and the galaxy?

Also, does anybody know if by using the mass and orbital speeds that are given in the system description are true, to actually calculate the Lagrange points?

Thank you,

I don't know the answer to this, just my impression from my own experience but I don't think the game simulates any orbital mechanics with respect to your ship.

I have tried just shutting off thrusters above a planet. If you are below the orbital cruise threshold, you will fall, accelerating as you go, but the downward speed is capped at ~500m/s
If you are above the orbital cruise threshold, you don't fall, you just hold position. Or at least you don't fall fast enough to notice in a short time frame.

I have tried to see if I could orbit a planet but according to my math, thruster speed limits are far too slow to reach orbital velocities.

Are you hoping to find L1/L2 or L4/L5?

I recall a post some time ago where a Cmdr had achieved orbit, but I don't remember how he achieved it - sorry :)
