Questions regarding Elite

I've been lurking for a while and am just about ready to purchase the beta.
I just have a few questions and would appreciate any assistance:
'
1--Controllers. Will my SWFFB2 joystick work with ED? How about my CH throttle and CH pedals?

2--Will TrackIR work with ED?

3--Is there an approximate release date other than *when it's ready*?
(I read that a new premium beta is to be released soon...is this for all beta testers or just for the ones who paid the $150?

4--I'm interested in purchasing the "all added content" package. Is there an estimate of how much the add-ons will cost, or how many there will be?

5--I'm an old trade wars fan. Is this somewhat like trade wars with the trading (and perhaps some macros might be modded in to automate trading)?

6--I've backed SC for $200 or so, but I'm liking what I see here more. I'm mostly a SP pilot, so will I be able to play offline or generate my own unique universe? (I read on the wikki that you can play ED in SP, just have no content or updates unless you go into the mmo universe....is this still current info?)

7--I've beta tested many games....just wondering if this current beta is enjoyable and mostly bug free (just content limited)?

thanks for any input!

RM

RM,

Just to keep your questions on the first page of the forum, here are some quick answers.

Yes to Q1 & Q2.

Target release is by end of the year. I think the target is Sep 30 for the 30th anniversary. Next release of Premium Beta is still for PB backers at $150.

PB at $150 includes the expansion pass. If you have standard beta or release, the expansion pass is $50 I think.

Tradewar game play is part of the game, but the traveling from systems to systems is a big part of it, so don't expect macroing your trade routes.

You can play as SP Online, which you'll be able to get live game content. I also assume you can occasionally download updates in SP Offline mode too.

No, current beta is not bug free, but still fun.....

Trade is pretty limited right now. Early in beta, so only 5 stations with 20-30 commodities each.

Not played Tradewars, but I doubt ED will be like that. You can't trade for profit in one system, you have to travel. Takes 5-10 minutes assuming no unsavoury characters intercept you.

Think of Elite more as, you own a vehicle (from small to HUGE) and you have a roll of cash. Buy low here, transport there, sell high, hopefully.

Edit- Yes to TrackIR and CH gear. Have them myself, perfect.

We don't know how much expansions will cost or how many there will be, but it's very clear that the plan is to add landing on planets, cities on planets, mining on planets, hunting animals on planets, planet-side specific missions, walking around your ship in first person, getting out of your ship, walking around stations, ship boarding, friends crewing your ship and many other additions over the years. It will be worth more than the expansion pass, I'm sure.

The game will be more of a 'space adventure simulator' than a 'space business simulator' so don't expect to be owning anything much beyond your ship/equipment or any way to automate credit accumulation.

1. Yes and yes.

2. Yes.

3. The latest news (coming from E3) is that the developers are thinking a release before the end of 2014 is possible/planned...if everything goes well.

4. There are three separate expansions that I can think of. Planetary landing/interaction, avatar FP play and seeding the universe with Thargoid home systems (the alien antagonist from the previous games). There are no news about specific cost per expansion, but two things are known. Expansions are planned to be very..eh..expansive with a lot of added features in each one, and expansions are not mandatory to keep playing the game.

5. Trading, a dynamic economy and background simulation of its effects on the universe are going to be a big part of this game. Autotrading is not.

6. There is no plan to have "private servers" at this point. You can play the game offline as a single player game (with your own set of the universe/shard), play online as a single player game (with FDs shard), play with friends or play with everybody. All online playing options are affecting the same universe/shard.

7. The current premium beta1 is content limited, not feature complete, enjoyable and has bugs and network problems.

Thank you all for the responses!

Yep, I'm thinking this is the game for me.
Thanks for taking the time. One more question:

Whats the difference between the beta release and the premium beta release?

Premium beta is out now, no date for normal beta.

With premium you also get all the add on content..

Whats the difference between the beta release and the premium beta release?

Premium beta costs 150$
It gives you the complete game (50$), an instant access now to the development phase (50$ for premium beta, regular beta and gamma phases) and an expansion pass for all future expansions to the game (50$, 3 are already planned with their individual cost unknown at this point).

Regular beta costs 75$

It gives you the complete game (50$) and access to the regular beta and gamma development phases.

Right now, the game is on the premium beta phase - premium beta1. We don't know when the regular beta will come, my guess is in a couple of months at most.

3 expansions are already planned? I know about the getting out of your seat and moving around your ship and the planetary landings. What is the third?

Expansion passes if bought seperately will cost £35 the same as the game when it released. Check this for more infromation https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat.html

A LOT of Thargoid love..remember, when the game is released a part of the galaxy where FD will want to put the Thargoids worlds is going to be closed off from public...:D

I know that there will be areas that will be closed off for future expansion but I think the Thargoids will pop up occasionally in the areas of the galaxy that we are permitted access to on release. I don't think we'll have to wait for an expansion to be released before we encounter the Thargoids.

I was talking about the actual worlds..Alien planets! C:

Thank you for all the replies.
After researching ED, I'm ready to join the premium beta commanders.
However, after realizing that SC has extremely limited controller usage at the moment, I wanted to confirm that these controllers can be set up and are working now in ED.

SWFFB2 joystick
CH throttle and CH pedals
TrackIR

If they will work, but arent working now, then it'd be better for me to wait for their implementation, since I wont be able to control anything (the problem with SC).
However if they are working now and can be adjusted/assigned, then there's no need to wait to purchase ED.

Thank you!
