Quests instead of infinity loops

There are the two Ram Tah missions which make you explore Guardian Ruins and Structures to decipher them and to learn about their lore. It takes a lot of time and travel, but it was certainly one of the most fun expeditions I've ever done in Elite. It's just a damn shame the logs you discover are not saved in the Codex (why? just WHY???).

Adding a number of similar hand-crafted "quest lines" would really add to the longevity of Elite. Especially now, when you can actually meet a fully voiced NPC "in person". Think of Quest lines that go deep into the lore and introduce players to the various factions, interest groups or actors and their respective agendas and politics.

Lori Jameson taking you through the Jameson Crash Site and that whole story.

Ram Tah mission getting some "cutscenes" in the form of voice acting and video comms.

I know people might feel like adding quests and story might make the game feel more gamey, but you know what... It is a game. And Galnet and Codex suck as a primary medium for "story".

I love both GalNet and the Codex, but I wish FDev would make more out of it. Especially the Codex is truly underused and not living up to it's full potential as a vehicle for ingame lore and the "Personal narrative" ("Blaze your own trail") of your Commander.

Those questlines don't need to be super complicated or interactive with multiple outcomes. I wouldn't even mind if they just "railroad" us to a certain point, since their primary objective is introduction into the lore and happenings in Elite.

For example, a questline could bring CMDRs into contact with Dredger clans. From that point onwards players could decide if they want to cooperate or to fight with the clans. Bonus points if there are multiple clans that could individually be opposed or befriended. Give us a Federation questline that introduces us to the political system of the Federation (with it's black, white and grey areas). Do the same for Alliance and Empire, so players can make an "educated" decision which faction to support later on in their careers. There could be questlines for Aegis or the Dark Wheel, for Sirius Corp or the PowerPlay actors.

Handcrafted and fully voice acted to establish lore and narrative instead of the current "deliver 2 tons of coffee in the name of democracy" to finally become "Rear Admiral". One can truly dream. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: just to make sure: I'm talking about "singular" handcrafted mission chains like Ram Tah's mission using the currently available ingame mechanics. Not a "complete replacement" for the mission board.

What i would really like to see more of, and i have seen it happen in the past and its really fun, is the community goals being used to drive a quest/story.

I think it would be really awesome if every week, FDEV set up a community goal that basically would push you into a given system/area, and encourage you to do an activity in that region/system, and this does not always need to be your standard "Hey just kills stuff" like the one were we got to go find the abandoned secret prison the empire had, that was cool.

I think it would be great if like one week, you hear about pirate attacks in x system, and you have to do a few quests where you gotta go onto settlements and find out whats going on, then for the rest of the week its fending off these attacks.
The next week, if a low level bar was met by the community it moves the quest forward to the next part where you have to track them down, and it gives you like a really generic area to search, but the community goal is you returning items that help you track them down. Once that goal is met next week the quest chain takes you to their home system and you gotta engage in a war with them. ect ect ect

Nice idea!
See, so much things could be easily implemented.
