Quick exploration question

Just started exploring after pure combat since release. However I had a quick question that might be answered by a more experienced explorer.

I've noticed that when you use a discovery scanner in a system, then go to System View, you can roughly guess what planets are earth-link, volcanic, gas giants, etc. without actually scanning them directly, just by visually identifying them. I really don't know if this holds water, or if I'm just getting lucky, but does the discovery scanner just show placeholders for the planets in System View or are they always like they say before you scan them? i.e. if it shows an Ice World on the system view, but you haven't scanned it yet, is it still an ice world when you scan it?

Seems kinda like an exploit, but probably intended. I can go 1,000 LYs away and quickly jump into a system, scan for EWL, and move on if I don't visually see them in the system map without actually scanning them. Am I correct in that?

Yes, after the initial scan the System Map will give you an idea of what type of things are there. Then target the interesting ones and do a detailed surface scan.

Yes, it works like that. If im going "far out" i only scan the planets, that are "blue" after the ADS finds those. I think you will find that useful:
